I am so sorry, that is terrible news!! I can't imagine how horrified you were to see your precious baby in that condition. So so so sorry.

    Re: Stitch :(

Thank you everyone. I just got home from work, long day, as I had to leave for work an hour after finding Stitch.
I will contact the company, if I can find the manufacturer. The perch looks innocent enough, and most birds could probably do fine with it. It is meant to be chewed, trim nails, and exercise the feet. Sadly, I think because Stitch's legs/toes were not normal functioning, and his nails I kept long to help him grip, his nails were quite curved, so I think just a freak accident that he got it caught. I can't blame the perch I guess, I never thought it could be dangerous.
I bought a nice little box today, and my daughter wants to bury him in Grammy's garden, so we will do that tonight. She is sad, Stitch was the only one of the fids who really let her handle him. He was so sweet.
I am just in shock, I can't believe he is gone. My hubby is so sad, he really loved Stitch too, he was already gone to work when I uncovered the fids.

I am so sorry. What a horrible way to find the little guy. How old was he? Could it be possible that perhaps he died from old age and just hung there? It's hard to think he died from getting stuck.

Stress related to an incident like that could easily cause cardiac arrest in a bird. Stitch was a very young bird.

Stitch was approx. 3 years old. He was physically handicapped, but otherwise in good health, ate well, etc. He was not terribly active, as his feet/legs did not always cooperate.
Yes, hard to believe he could have died by getting his toe caught, but I have no idea how long he struggled. And his heart must have given out from the fight or fear. Makes me feel so sick thinking of him going through that. We go to bed at 10pm & up at 7am (birds up at 7:30/8 am). We live in an apartment, so I wear earplugs to bed, or I may have heard him and saved him.

Oh my gosh Lori Ann, I am so sorry!

I hardly ever come into the Rainbow Bridge room, cuz I always come out crying my eyes out, but I saw the name of the thread in here, and thought "OH NO!". My heart actually skipped a beat. And my worst fears are confirmed.

I can only imagine how you must be feeling. But like others have said, accidents happen. Things we would/could never imagine or foresee happening...

    My deepest condolences.

I'm so sorry for not posting in here sooner, you must be going through hell
Please, please do not blame yourself for this. It was a real accident, and I can only hope that you do not lay the blame with you.
You did a great job with such a special little bird, he was so loved and I know that he loved you so much too
Be strong, he was a very lucky, happy little bird and you allowed him to have the best possible life.

    Re: Stitch :(

My deepest condolences on an unexpected loss. I feel terrible that this happened.

My mom found one of my cockatiels hanging by his neck from a rubber toy (looks like long strands of shredded cheese) many years ago and luckily she was home to have heard the screaming. We called the manufacturer about it and of course to this day, the toys are still being sold. I hope you have better luck with them than we did.

    Re: Stitch :(

*Grr*...I hate the mass producers of bird toys that when complained to, don't give a rats' *** about the birds' well being. I think I have already posted here, but again I am so sorry about poor Stitch. I know how it feels finding a beloved pet bird in the morning.
