    Harness Question

I really want to get harness for the fids (mostly Louie), but I don't know which kind to get. I know almost everyone swears by the Aviator, but it is so expensive! And there are other members who say the flight suit or even the Feather Tether is the one to get. What is the best choice if I were to use it for both a tiel and GCC? And why? (ex: is i escape-proof, easy to put on, etc.)

Thanks! I am just so confused about which one to get.

    Re: Harness Question

First- the choice is always a personal one.
Some like the dropping catchin option of a Flightsuit,
others prefer the full open design of the Aviator.

We've used Flightsuits since we got Gracie (over 2 years)
We appreciate the poop pouch because there are areas where we like to take her (like some stores) that would not allow her inside if there were no way to prevent the accidental soiling of their products.

Starting with younger bird is usually easier, but either product will take some work to get the bird acclimatized and accept wearing it.

    Re: Harness Question

They make flight suits small enough to fit parrotlets and budgies.

I have been debating this same question... and i really just don't like all the clasps and adjustments on the feather tether... but its at a great price so its no big loss if my birds hate it. I have not used it, but it just looks too user unfriendly.

The more I look at the aviator harness the more i like it. I watched youtube videos of people putting them on birds and it looks easy to use. I like the way the head hole is and how it fits on the neck and back. I like that you can make the back hole huge for easy on/off.

I'm gonna save up the spare change and buy one sooner than later.... and hopefully both birds will be okay with it. If so I'll save up again and buy a second.

    Re: Harness Question

I looked up all the harnesses on YouTube, and it definitely looks like the Aviator is the best one for me. It is so much easier to put on from what I've seen, and that is a huge advantage. However, I might buy the Feather Tether from Petsmart, and return it if it doesn't work. It is so much cheaper, but I know you get what you pay for. If it doesn't work, I will just save up for the Aviator.

I like the idea of Flight suits, but I know my birds would never let me put one on them. Neither of them are especially fond of me grabbing them or touching their wings. That's why I like the Aviator- it is so easy to put on the bird.

    Re: Harness Question

I would go with the aviator. I tried the feather tether with Diego and the clasp in front was so heavy that he had to fight not to fall over. That was with the proper size, too!

    Re: Harness Question

I had a flight suit for Cricket, and was only able to get it on him once, but it was just awful. I would never suggest one for most birds.

I plan to get an aviator for Milo, I keep forgetting to order one when I order food. But I like the design and it seems so much easier to get on and off.

    Re: Harness Question

I have both, it depends on what you are looking for.

If you are looking for something that looks nice and pretty and keeps the poop off, light weight. I would go with the Flight suit. Draw backs are the birds foot can be stuck on the bottom portion, they can undo the Velcro strap on top and the small shoulder straps are easily chewed through.

If you are looking for easy maintenance, durability, cheap prices and low maintenance and are not worried about the poop factor I would go with the feather tether. I do not know about the Aviator though. Draw back of the tether is, it does get frayed over time, no poop control, the plastic clasp may be chewed till broken, it doesn't look "pretty" and may be a bit confusing to be put on with an impatient bird.

    Over cost wise is:

    Feather Tether $10
Avian flight Suit $30+ ( You get the strap, and cotton pads)
    Aviator, I can't remember.

I prefer both. I use the suit for like going out to places where poop is not allowed, and I use the tether for like walks out side and visiting to the friends.

    Re: Harness Question

The Aviator was $34.99 with FREE shipping. And a free instructional CD.

Here is a link to the Manufacturer, so you know it is the real deal, not a cheap knock off. http://theparrotuniversity.com/aviator_harness.php

    Re: Harness Question

I use flight suits on all of my birds, but it took me a long time to get them to cooperate and wear it without constantly trying to chew it off. My tiel is great, will let me put it on and just accepts it like a good girl, the conures try to take my fingers off, but once it is on, they leave it alone, the lovies..........omg, all they do is roll around on the floor like rubber balls, with the exception of Olive, she wears hers like a good girl, but the other two, refuse to walk and look highly insulted when I put it on. I bought flight suits that have a lanyards attachment with them from Windy City. Expensive though, I got lucky as they were on sale for 35.99 each which included diapers. I now use round cotton cosmetic applicators as poop catchers, much cheaper.
