Re: Cockatiel flying back to cage?
well i would assume he wants to be in his cage. he feels more secure there. if ya are working on taming and training. then it is best to take him to where he cannot see his cage and work there.

Louie, my cockatiel, used to always fly back to his cage. I always take him into another room to play with him. Now he is much better about flying back to his cage (he rarely ever does anymore)

Maybe he just doesn't want to be bothered, and would rather nap. Perhaps try to take him away from it when he is in a playful mood?

lol, so true, Mine just started doing it these last few weeks, now that some more flight feathers have grown in.
She has mastered flying to her cage on command, but when she wants on the couch (which is right below it)- She is dumbfounded, and will peep and peep and peep, cause she can not figure out how to get to us, aside from climbing down her ladder. Silly girl. Some day she will connect the dots. haha

Diego has been doing it for a little over a month. I admit it, I taught him with pizza crust. He flew over to try and steal pizza crust so I decided to make him work for it. When I told him "cage" and made him fly, he would get it if he went to his cage. It took 10 tries to actually get him to the cage, but he finally got it. Then he got a few nibbles of pizza crust. I did that about 15 times in 2 days and it worked! Once it clicked that he got a treat for it he was happy to oblige.

For us, it took so long cause she needed wind to fly any farther than "down".
Now that her feathers are growing in, she can go farther and farther without wind.
(with wind, she can flay forever)
