The Case of the Missing Hamster
I went to go check on our hamster, Jasper, and he wasn't in his cage. The cage was closed. He is no where to be found. We were gone overnight Sat-Sun, I fed him a treat last night, but didn't take him out...the treat is still there, so I'm assuming he wasn't there at all b/c he always eats his treats. SO, sometime btwn when we left on Sat and when we came home on Sun he went missing...and his cage is CLOSED, and it's up on the big 100 gallon aquarium which is too high for the cats to jump on. I haven't seen him. I liked that hamster I have no idea where he is.

Re: The Case of the Missing Hamster
Yeah check the bedding if not he could have climbed up on something and gotten to the top of the cage and lifted the cover and gotten out. My cousin had a golden hamster when i was younger and it escaped. We found it 3 days later still alive under a couch cushion.

Oh my gosh that's scary! Do you see any poop trails or chew marks on anything? Leave food and water in the cage in the middle of the room. You can also leave crinkly paper or something around the edges of the walls (they don't usually run across the middle of a room) to see if you ever hear him. Best of luck.

Re: The Case of the Missing Hamster
Some people that I know lost their hamster, the next night someone found it running across the road a bit from their house and returned it to them!! Thats the encouraging story, now heres the downer one- My sisters friends hamster got lost and was found in some clothes that just came out of the washing machine, dead . He must have made a nest in the clothes and the owners didn't see him snuggled in there.
I hope you find him!

Re: The Case of the Missing Hamster
my hamster always escaped from the cages,,, we'd find the in another room under the beds.. running around next to the walls.. or under some kind of furniture.

Re: The Case of the Missing Hamster
Hamsters are notorious for escaping. Thankfully, most of them they are found and safely returned to their cage. Keep looking under all beds and couch cushions, because that is where they usually reside. Put food and water out, too. I hope you find him!

Re: The Case of the Missing Hamster
Thanks guys, still no luck. The thing is, IF he'd have fallen from the top of the aquarium, and IF he survived, he'd likely be quite injured or at least knocked unconcious...just long enough for one of the cats to have gotten a hold of him Of course, we haven't seen any evidence of a struggle..NOTHING to suggest that he has been scampering around or anything Oh what a frustrating situation.

Re: The Case of the Missing Hamster
Get a rubbermaid container, something with sides high enough he can't climb out. Make a ramp, and have food on it leading to the top - and food inside. He might climb it and get stuck, and you can find him in it and return him to his cage...

Re: The Case of the Missing Hamster
My hamsters were always getting into bad spots. I had one that got out and got into our covered hottub (it was empty) and we didn't find it until it was too late, and of course the steps were too high for it to get out once it had fallen down...
Have you checked behind appliances? One time a hamster of ours ran under the dishwasher and we had to coax her out.

Re: The Case of the Missing Hamster
My hamster always used to get out of her cage. But her cage is confined to the bedroom, away from the cats so I found her the next day, alive.. in my bedroom closet.
She got out everyday for a week or so, until I figured out how she was escaping and fixed it.
Sorry about the your hammie. Hopefully he is still alive and hiding out somewhere.

Aw no
That's horrible... I hope you find your little on soon!
I know my old dwarf hamster escaped and ran under our oven... We found her a day or two later, and coaxed her out. I found her at 1 am because I heard "Clicking" noises and thought someone was knocking on our window
I really do hope you find your hammie! Goodluck!
There.

Re: The Case of the Missing Hamster
I had a dwarf hamster that used to escape and squeeze into the bottom of my doves' cage to eat the seed they dropped. The doves didn't seem to mind, but I finally had to block him in with cardboard! So definitely leave some food out, they are hungry little beasts and sometimes it works.

Check under the fridge!
I've had a few escape artists in my day and only one chose a closet over the warmth of the very back of the fridge.

Dont give up yet!! I lost a hamster and found it a month later, she chewed a tiny hole in the wall and made a nest with the insulation in there.

Hmm, I'll check that. I really do think that my Siamese would have gotten a hold of him tho I haven't heard any scratching noises or anything :S
