    Crazy, Crazy Bird

Yesterday I decided to give Chicklit a bath, so I filled up his little tub with nice lukewarm water. I put him on the side and let him check out the water, and I put some on him to show him that it was warm. But of course, instead of bathing in it, he decided to drink it like it was his water dish. He looked at the water from a bunch of different angles, and then flew back to his cage.

I figured he just didn't want a bath, so I didn't really care. So I go to empty his tub, and when I come back, he is splashing around in is water dish, spraying water all over the floor and his cage.

Silly bird drinks out of his bath and bathes in his water dish!

Lol, I gave up giving ours baths. The only place they ever want to have a bath is the water dish on the playgym.

Maybe he didn't want to bathe in warm water, he might have wanted to have a nice cold bath. My birds all like bathing in nice fresh cold water. Or he didn't like the bathing dish and just preferred his water dish. All my fids bathe in their water dish lol.

That is a good point. Although he usually bathes in lukewarm water, maybe yesterday he didn't want to. Or he was just trying to be a pain.

I vote for being a pain. My conures will use their bath to dip food in, and their water dish to bathe in, I am constantly pouring water out. They use water bottles for fresh drinking water, but I still put a few water dishes in just so they have a choice. Never know which one they are going to use.

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a question. I've seen a lot of people who have shower perches... I have one I built when my GCC comes home, what temperature do they like? I don't take hot showers by any means, but they just like the misting off your body pretty much, right?

Probably just being a picky Conure then .
I have to change all my fids water dishes at least 2 times a day, i swear they get it so messy in such little time. But they learn everything off of one another, so when one dips their pellets in their water dish, they ALL dip their pellets in their water dish ...

    Re: Crazy, Crazy Bird

Dale is the same way. As soon as I clean his water dish, he splashes it all over in a bath. We even downgraded to a smaller one, but nope. Still does it. Then he poops in it. So I change the water again. Sometime during the day, I thought he dunks his food. No... he simply takes any food he has that he doesn't want (if it's not vita cookies, sunflowers, or peanuts) and drops them in the water so he doesn't have to eat them. The past few days, I've been taking him in the shower with me. Usually just to get a nice misting (he hangs out on a shelf), but yesterday he allowed me to put him under the shower water. I couldn't tell if he liked it, though. But he didn't splash in his drinking water after!

Russell, they love the water that splashes off of you. I don't take really hot showers either and my conures love the water so whatever temp you like they will too, but make sure you kinda towel dry them when you take them out so they warm up quickly.

My conure likes his water dish as well. Max and Tegan (the conure) will bathe in the shower, they loooove the water that splashes off me! And they enjoy being blowdried
