Two kinds of birds in one cage

Hi, I've had a Sun Conure for about two years now, and I have always been a fan of African Greys as well as conures, and i was wondering if i could put an african grey bird in the same cage as my conure. The cage is QUITE large, and plenty big enough for the two birds. I didnt know if you werent supposed to mix two diffrent kinds of birds in one cage. Thanks for any help!

    Hello, and welcome to Tailfeathers!

You definitly need to keep your conure and future Grey separate. There is a big size difference between the two birds, and no matter how big the cage is, there will be fighting. You can keep the cages in the same room, but do not put them together. If they are out at the same time, make sure you supervise them at all times.

Where are you buying the Grey from? They sure are neat birds!

I agree with Erin. Even if the birds end up bonding, the grey's beak might end up breaking your sun's neck when they preen each other.

    two birds

A couple more questions. So should i not even let the birds be out together if the grey could hurt Skittles (my conure), i was hoping the birds could kinda bond because i just had a conure die two weeks ago of old age, he was 29 or so, and Skittles seems to be very lonely. Would having another bird in the room, but not in the same cage make him feel better while i'm at work? I really want a grey and was hoping i could get one, but two birds is not in the budjet right now. Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can let them out together, but when you take them out together for the first time make sure you can restrain each bird incase they aren't too happy with each other. After that if they do like each other, still supervise them at all times.

    Re: two birds

My grandpa had birds back in brazil, a gold and yellow macaw and a little teil. they were the best of friends and shared the same cage. One day the birds got a little to friendly and to make a long story short, the macaw tore off the beak of the teil. birds just dont know their own strength. keep them separated or one could end up injured or dead.
