Red face Calling peach-fronted conure owners...

    I'm addicted...to conures.

I am over the moon about Ducky (as y'all probably know by now ).

The last couple times I've visited Omar's in Lake Forest I've seen a couple peach fronted conures and they're ALL just sweet as pie. There was one there yesterday.....

And then came the looking up of Youtube videos.....

Oh geez, why do I do this? LOL I've got the bird bug sooo bad.

Ok, PFC owners, tell me all about your babies. Give me the good, bad, ugly, anything you want me to know.

Mom to Ducky! (female cinnamon GCC)...THANK YOU Keet for the gorgeous sig!!
Won't you come see me after 12am?

    Re: Calling peach-fronted conure owners...

    Oh yeah, no kidding. LOL

Reasons I shouldn't get another bird:
Do I really have space for another cage? I mean, really? (yes...yes I could totally make space...sigh!)
Do I really want that much more noise? (I can deal with the noise, it's the neighbors...but I'm moving by the end of the year into a pet friendly place...if I got a baby in a couple months the neighbors would hardly know by the time I'm gone...)
Would Ducky's behavior change? (A legitimate concern...I'd cage them separately, but I feel like she would really thrive with a buddy during playtime - she's so social!)
Will it just be TOO many birds after we move? (If everything works out, our combined household after we move is going to consist of around 50 birds - one cockatoo cage, a budgie flight cage (30 birds), and a cockatiel flight cage (14 birds), plus Ducky's cage and then the possible new baby's cage......that's a LOT of birds...but...what's just one more....LOL)
Am I going to be around enough after school starts to justify getting another bird? (This is the big one...my schedule might genuinely not even allow for this...I'll know after July 20 when my fall schedule is decided, and that is when my work schedule will take shape too)

Reasons I should totally get a bird:
    MBS (multiple bird syndrome)
    OMG SO CUTE!
    A playmate for Ducky...
    Duhhhh, it's another bird!
Double the conure trouble! I love seeing them at play. I can only imagine how cute it would be to see the two conures playing....if they got along, that is. If not, that's just as well too, as I do plan to cage them separately and I believe in keeping birds clipped for safety.

Will have to really think hard on this. Things are perfect with Ducky and I'd feel terrible if I screwed it up somehow. She's an angel.

Mom to Ducky! (female cinnamon GCC)...THANK YOU Keet for the gorgeous sig!!

I felt the same about Angel and me but my fears were groundless. There are, as you know no guarantees, about them getting on. I too thought long and hard. It isn't easy. Hugs.

    Re: Calling peach-fronted conure owners...

I just want to make sure I don't make a stupid snap decision that, while I can live with the outcome, brings unnecessary hardship to either my or sweetie's birds.

Well here is one more knock against the idea. I already promised sweetie a lory after we get settled. Only a few of the cockatiels like to be handled...the budgies get regular handling but none are sit-on-your-finger-and-chat-with-you tame...the bulk of the parrot socialization time is between the other ones...and I know a lory is the ultimate ADHD bird and will suck up our free time like a multicolored vacuum cleaner...LOL

Well, as you know you will be getting a Lorry, you can factor that in. As you said, what's one more? Only you can answer that though. I am no help, am I lol. Hopefully others with experience with them will be in soon.

Okay folks, I may be having a total brain fart here...help me out...

I've found a couple breeders for PFC's around here but doesn't Bird Channel.com have some listings by species/state? I can't seem to find them. I'll be filtering through Bird Talk issues too, I still have a few lying around...

Edit: I found the birdsnways listings, but didn't birdchannel have some too?

    Re: Calling peach-fronted conure owners...

Hey guys quick advice I nned from you. I tried to post a link and ask for an advice at another link. I have a very loud gold-capped conure, who tends to scream his lungs out. Tried covering him up, saying no, sprinkling him with water, saying pssst to distract him and absolutely nothing works. He does that from sunrise to sunset, and I'm desperate

    Re: Calling peach-fronted conure owners...

Go to the conure section listing and at the bottom left there is an image that says "New Thread" or something along those lines...start there.

    Re: Calling peach-fronted conure owners...

If you are questioning how you can fit the responsibility of another feathered friend into your life right now, even in the slightest, perhaps now is not the best time for it. You might have the room for a new cage, your neighbors might not notice and hey, Ducky might love having a conure buddy. But if you're worried about your upcoming courseload, it might be best to spend this time with the flock you have now rather than throwing a new member into the mix.

Not that I don't think that you couldn't handle another parrot in the home if that's what you really want. I'm just wondering if now is the best time for that.

OMG, I drive myself crazy with the same questions, Jilly! I'd love to get another parrot but I worry about Pickle: will our relationship suffer? Will a new parrot accept him and vice versa? Will I have to worry about the noise factor, even if I go for a reportedly "quiet" species?

    Best of luck, chica!

I feel your pain, Jilly! Really I do. I would love to take in another bird right now, but I just don't have the space or time. My hands are pretty full with my flock as is.

I agree with Eliza, if you have the slightest doubts, then don't go through with it. Better for everyone involved if you just wait. There is no hurry, Conures are lifetime companions so it's not like it won't happen. Patience is the key...

Yeah, you guys are totally right. It probably won't happen, at least in the near future, but a gal can dream, can't she?
