Lonely Lovebird - Sibling Passed Away

    Hello my Friends,

About 3 1/2 years ago my wife and I found two baby lovebirds abandoned in a vacant yard of the house we were looking to purchase. We took them in and nursed them to health. We were happy to have them as part of our family. Over this past weekend Lucy passed away - we're not sure what exactly happened but one minute they were playing and then the next... Lucy was gone. This left Linus as the sole surviving lovebird in our household. My wife and I are terribly saddened by the passing of Lucy, but we are equally concerned with Linus' well-being. You see, Linus was the follower in the twosome. Lucy always was leading them in eating, playtime, etc.

Since the accident, Linus has been very talkative, but he is so skiddish around me and my wife. We just want him to know we love him and care for his well-being. Is there a way to go about making this approach - or do we just make sure we're talking to him and give him attention from a distance?

Any and all tips and advice are appreciated,
    Len

I'm sorry it's such sad tidings that bring you here, but welcome anyway.
The link Sarah posted you is great, but i think you have the right idea... basically let him know you are there for him, but let him make the advances

Thanks Lee for the adorable sig!

I am sorry for your loss and feel bad for Linus, it must be awful for him. I will never forget my dogs saddness when his mom passed away, you could feel his pain just looking at him. In time Linus will be OK and he may just become easier for you to train and he could be a shoulder bird someday. He already spent many years with you and already knows you well so it shouldnt be as hard for you to train him then it would be if you were a stranger to him.

Hugs to you for your loss.
Fly Free Boomer, we will forever love you.
