    Need help with a pigeon

I have a really ill pigeon in my garden. He is huddled by my back door step. I have been feeding him all day and shooing the other pigeons away when they fly down to attack him.
What can I do, If I leave him where he is, the foxes are sure to have him tonight. I haven't touched or been too close to him as Im afraid of infection towards my birds indoors.
    Any advise anyone........please

You could try a rescue sanctuary, they might take him in?

I recently found a sick dove in my yard and took him to a wildlife rescue place where they were treating him for Trichomoniasis, its common in doves and also pigeons. They usually are super busy so if you offer to drive the pigeon to them they will usually take them in. With the dove and also another sick bird we found here we kept them in a box with water, seeds and some softened pellets in it for them but usually we were able to run them down to the rescue within a hour so they only stayed in the box for maybe a couple of hours. Hope you pigeon is going to be OK.

Re: Need help with a pigeon

I have some slightly good news. Apart from nobody here in England wanting to take the pigeon because they are diseased and the authorities would only put it to sleep anyway, I took it apon myself to try to help it.
The pigeon keeps sleeping in the corner of my garden so I have made a little shelter for it. I have been giving the pigeon some Synulox medicine by dropper. Without touching the bird I drop the medicine into its beak twicw a day.
Today he has actually been running around the garden and feeding with the other birds without being attacked. He still looks rather ill but he is at last eating and drinking. He has now retired back to his little corner for the night.
Although I don't touch him, I still shower and scrub myself before dealing with my birds indoors.I really don't want the risk of mine getting ill.

This annoys me they carry the same amount of diseases as any other wild bird, this is just ignorance or and excuse for wildlife carers not to take them in. Even the carer down the road has said so.

Sounds like he is doing well. Great job.

Re: Need help with a pigeon

Thanks guys, I noticed last night before I closed the back door that the pigeon was sitting in his little cardboard hut shaking as if he was cold. I gave him some more medicine and water and left him for the night. This morning I went to check him at 5am and he was gone. I don't know where though. I have searched the garden but can't find him. I know a fox or cat hasn't seen him because there is no sign of a struggle, no feathers laying around and his hut is intact. Would a pigeon go away some where to pass away?
It is 4 hours now, I keep looking for him, but still he hasn't turned up.

Sounds like he had gone back to his roost, which means you got him feeling much better.
