Arrow How much sleep does a cockatiel need?

    Hey guys,

Another question from me . So as the title suggests - how much sleep does a cockatiel need?. My cockatiels usually get around 10-12 hours of sleep everyday. Is too much sleeping for a cockatiel bad ? and how much sleep is recomended to keep them healthy.

10-12 hours is what's best. I don't think too much is bad (it's not like you can force them to stay asleep!) but too little (due to too much light or noise keeping them up) can lead to cranky birds and in females can contribute to egg laying.

Mine get ten hours of darkness. I don't know how much sleep they get, but ten hours works for us to prevent egg laying and keeping them happy.

All of my fids get 10-12 hours of darkness each night, but I don't know that they sleep all of that time. Sometimes I hear them chirping or chattering when they should be sleeping. I agree, they can't get too much sleep, but they can get to little sleep.

Kes sleeps from 10pm-7am or 8am so about 9-10 hours sleep. Thats if she actually goes too sleep under that cover.

Oscar gets like 8-10 hours of darkness. Not sure how much he actually sleeps.

Chiquita goes to sleep at 7pm and gets up at 7am, so 12 hours and she is full of spunk the next day.
