    Sour crop?

I woke up today and checked the babies like I always do and the one looked a bit off. The baby still active but the crop is like it's slightly filled with air and it has one red vain on it showing.

Here is an image I manged to get [I forgot to take the flash off >.<']

Please give a little more info....such as, are you handfeeding or are they in the nest? How much is being fed, and the temp of formula, and also temp where the baby is housed if handfed.

Here is a link to an illus you can print out. it is a little 'Kitchen cabinet remedy' that has helped with crop and digestive problems with chicks.

    Re: Sour crop?

OK...from your pix the mouth looks clean which if it had food built up on the face or inside the mouth that would be a source of a problem later on in the crop.

The vein does not appear to be convulated (meaning swollen) Is it actually the vein or a small scratch...I can't tell for sure. But in either case it does not look like it could be problematic.

if the checking was first thing before the parents fed the crop can look like this, especially if the chick was crying to be fed, it would get a little air in the crop.

How does it look now? Especially after the parents have fed it?

How old? Here is a link that shows growth from day one, and you can see the crops on some...

The crop looks like it should after the baby was well fad by mom and dad. The baby is ether 5-6 days old [cant really tell the two babies apart at the moment they both look the same]

    Re: Sour crop?

When I did a forum search on sour crop I found your story and your little baby and I am so sorry for you lost <3

Well I am going to keep any eye on the little guy and see his the crop drains fully later on.. but its kind hard to tell with mom and dad being really good first time parents and feeding them so well.

Jennifer...it sounds like your little one is doing fine. And from the your pix, OK...just an empty hungry baby at the time

At that age they grow so fast.
