Where do you keep your birds?

    Hey guys,

Ive seen many people on this forum with alot birds. Some people have outdoor aviaries and some keep them indoors. Do people have different birds in different cages and keep them indoors? if so how do you manage having to clean their trays out everyday or cleaning after the mess they make ?. I keep my birds indoors but was wondering how others go about keeping their birds. Would be nice to see some pics of the different setups aswell . Are their different things you can purchase to make it easier to keep birds and clean after them indoors?.

We have the two cages facing each other more or less across the living room. The three most important things you need are newspaper, a hoover and wipes, lol. We have newspaper on the floor under the boing, and under the playgym upstairs and as the cage lining. We swap the paper every couple of days downstairs and generally once a week upstairs, but they're normally only up there at the weekends anyway. Baths are only upstairs and then they have to stay on the playgym until all the water's "passed through". Other than that we just hoover once a week and wipe up after them if they go anywhere else. It's pretty easy and it doesn't take long to swap papers.

The budgies have no interest in the newspaper, but the cockatiels have it under the grate so they can't get to it, otherwise Kami goes in to breeding mode, crawling under it and making it her nest.

I keep mine in my living room. I keep it clean by cleaning it, lol. I vacuum up the mess (if the dogs don't eat it first) and clean the cage out regularly.

We also have a cover on our sofa (mostly because it's a red sofa on a red carpet and it's just too much red, lol) but it's really handy to be able to throw it in the washing machine when needed. =)

Oh, thats another thing. I use fleece to line the bottom of the cage. That attracts things easier and is less likely to allow things to scatter everywhere.

Re: Where do you keep your birds?

I keep my birds in my bedroom, it's like a big rectangle and then there's a smaller rectangle coming off of it, so that's the "bird nook". It has two windows so there's lots of light for them.

I use paper to line my bird cages, my Grey has a grate but the budgies don't, they don't really chew the paper but if they do it's not really an issue since it gets changed every day. the paper in my Grey's cage gets changed about every other day.

Keeping the place clean is generally pretty easy if you just do a little bit every day. It's easier to do "maintenance cleaning" than to let everything get messy and then clean it all up. Every day (usually in the afternoon or at night before I go to bed) I pick up any paper, big pieces of food, etc off the floor and vacuum and put new paper under my Grey's cage (he likes to sit on top of the door when he's out so if I don't put paper under it he gets poop on the carpet :/) Once a week after I clean the cages (take all the trays, grates, seed trays, etc outside and hose them off, spot clean with vinegar) I move all the cages to the other side of the room so I can vacuum really thoroughly.

    living room here
and i have a hagan vision cage which reduces mess a LOT.
They make them big enough to bugs, lovies and teils.

You can also buy seed guards which help. Mostly its just cleaning lots though

Thanks Lee for the adorable sig!

I keep Oscar and Nikko in my room and Eeyore is down stairs in the comp room. Keeping my room clean involves a lot of vacuuming. I have my own vacuum for the birds. Its doesn't take long to dump newspaper down the can and spread out a few more sheets.

Re: Where do you keep your birds?

My birds are in a room that is basically theirs. They aren't really messy though, most is contained within their cages with the exception of Kiwi when he molts.

I only clean about once a week, which involves lifting up newspaper and putting more down; I clean up poop from other surfaces in the cage whenever it's need.

Keep mine in the den/tv room. It's where we spend most of our time when we're home. Both birds have grates adn newspaper under the grates. It's easy to clean. To clean poo off the wood floor I put a damp papertowel on the floor over the poo and leave it there for a few mins, then wipe it up...works pretty well.

Most of do the same things, newspaper, etc. One thing I like is the insight bird feeders. I use the medium for food and large for a bathtub. They can't get poop in the water and the feeders keep them from slingin food all over the floors. It also saves on wasted food, they can't throw out the stuff they only eat when the good stuff is gone.
