Yep. Show budgies are Engilsh budgies. They are larger in size and build and have poof heads rather than normal heads. They tend to be more laid back and in some situations have shorter lifespans. Good breeding is changing the lifespan issues though, from what I've been told here.

roxy said all I know but I just wanted to ask roxy a question. How would you be able to breed for lifespan? You wouldn't know how long they will live until they pass. I know you could breed for good health but from what I've heard they are just short lived birds no matter what health they are in.

I find the short lived thing to be B.S.

We had one that we caught outside and im not even sure how old it was when we found it. Well it ended up living 15 years. Thats pretty freaking old for an english budgie too.

Know your blood lines! There are good blood lines that keep fertility and have live a LOT longer than many other blood lines!

One can also show the "American"/pet budgie too. These birds are exhibited in the Parrot Division, in the Australian Section, if there isn't a class set aside then they are entered in the Other Grass Parakeet class. These smaller "pet" birds are not judged to the same manner that the English are. There is no standard for the Parrot Division. All hookbills other than cockatiels, love birds and English budgies show in the Parrot Division - so yes macaws show against the tiny hanning parrots and budgies. Size is not what they are judged on - condition, if they have all their body parts and how they best represent their counter parts in the wild. Hybreds are not exhibited.
