Question on finches

wow, this all bird forum is awsome! *ahem* anyways, has anyone ever tamed their finch? if so, get into detail, and if you have something else to say, go ahead!

Finches are hard to tame, because they are so small, stress easily and as such are liable to heart attacks, however I know someone that has hand raised a few finches and they turn out "tame".

Raising young is the only way I'd suggest of taming them because of their size and them being fragile.

If you were to tame one then I'd suggest a java sparrow (rice finch) as they're bigger and generally easier to tame, they learn fast so would quickly associate you with the "good stuff" like parrots do.

Taming would be done pretty much the same way as for any other bird.

Getting them used to hands, teaching step up and so on.

Thanks a lot!!! my 3 local petstores ( all within 7 min's away, one is 2 mins, lucky me ) have tons of breeds of finches, they have the smaller ones in a really big built in cage (at the 2 larger petstores, both pets unlimited) and then they have the larger ones in a smaller cage as pairs. The smallest petstore (inside a mall, but the best prices and best kept animals, as it is a family business, not a chain) has a few smaller finches, but i dont think they have any larger ones. Lol im getting all excited now, because finches are so cheap around here!
