Dude, chill. It was an hour. Relax. And yes, they've considered it, and that's as far as it got, as we don't really need anyone else.

    Re: slow reaction to spamming

my young daughter frequently uses my account to look up on birds and research, and to think if she had seen it.....
This forum is not the only place that your daughter might see something you would rather her not. If you're worried, maybe you should not let her use the internet without supervision or teach her that opening threads with names like the most recent spam is not okay.

This forum gets very, very little spam compared to many others, and the mods do a fantastic job. If you don't like how the forum is run, though, maybe you should look for a different forum.

    How is this unfriendly?
You pretty much made it our business when you mentioned your horror of your daughter seeing an image like that in the first place... so, curiosity takes over. What does it matter if she sees an image like that here, or somewhere else? She's much more likely to come across an image like that doing a google search than she is on this site.

    Re: slow reaction to spamming

The fact of the matter is you simply can't ever expect unpaid volunteers to be here 24/7 and if you, as the parent, allow your child to be on the internet, YOU, as the parent, need to deal with whatever consequences. We are not an unfriendly forum, just a realistic one. Dan and the mods can't be here all the time. They have lives elsewhere, too. And finding new mods is not always easy and not always the best choice. Most new mods end up posting less because the fun is gone. The wash out for new mods is pretty high, too.

    Re: slow reaction to spamming

Well, it is a public forum, and we're the public. So, we can respond if we'd like to. If you wanted only mods to see it, and not everyone else, you should have used a PM.

    Re: slow reaction to spamming

Maybe, if this forum actually had a problem with spamming. Why give the mods extra work? Signing up a new mod takes work for them too - I'd say it's easier just to monitor your daughter while she's online. Or use parental controls.

    Re: slow reaction to spamming

It requires a moderator to close or delete a thread. People report posts over various things including (but not limited to) rude posting, inappropriate posting, needing to say something to the mods about something in general (you'd be amazed at how often this is used), bad links, members flouncing, spammers, etc. Mods do NOT have the time to screen every thread. I may not be a mod on this site but I am one on a very well used dog forum. I spend time there daily. But, I can't nor would I ever WANT to spend all my time there. And with the several mods we have there, any more would clutter it and make it harder to get anything done.

You are seriously over reacting to a ONE HOUR delay. God forbid someone has a life out side of the internet and this site.

Mods have limited time here. They are volunteers. They can only do so much and do a GREAT job, if you ask me. Given that there are only a few of them, they get the job done and do it well. There is no such thing as 100% safety online for a child. That part is up to YOU. They can't be here 24/7 and they don't have time to sort through multiple threads to decide if something *might* be inappropriate because it was reported. There are a TON of reported posts. Seriously.

    Re: slow reaction to spamming

We don't have spamming issues on this site!!! There is the occasional spam post but that is pretty rare. You are doing what spammers want and that is reacting. They see things like this and they will be more likely to continue to do this. Just chill.
