    Question Grumpy baby 'tiel

My baby 'tiel is 9weeks today. He's lovely most of the time but he gets very grumpy when you go to scritch him, he will swing his beak full pelt at your finger to stop you.

Sometimes he likes scritches but most of the time he just bites. Anyway I can stop him doing this? Is it just his personality or is he just a grumpy baby.

I want to nip it in the bud before it becomes a problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

If he's only nine weeks old, how long have you had him? It could just be that he needs to trust you more and become more confident with you before he's happy to accept scritches. Does he put his head down and ask for scritches when you give them? If not, wait until he asks. I ask our two if they want scritches by holding my finger just above their heads, if they want them, then they'll put their heads down, if not they'll chew on my finger nail, lol.

Some birds too just do not like scritches with fingers. Mine adore them with chin nose and cheek, not fingers. My son's bird is the opposite. Angel, whom I have had for nearly 3 years now, bought her when young, no matter how I tried it just continued to freak her so we happily do it her way.

I've had him since he was 6weeks. I don't know if he understands what they are. Sometime he will let me, other times he wont.

He dosn't seem to like fingers near he and starts lunging at them. He's quite happy to sit on your hand though.
