What is the diffrence between a female and male parrotlet??
What is the diffrence between them. Does the female talk . Also their temprament and attitude. Which is the best for a pet.

Re: What is the diffrence between a female and male parrotlet??
Rosalie- I had a female P'let for nine years and she was precious. Not a word used to often to describe a P'let as they can be quite the big bird in a little body.
Personally I prefer females. I never had any egg issues. Males are more desired I believe because of the coloring. That has never influenced which one I kept as a pet. It was more personality for me and I found the females to be more cuddly/loving. That is just my personal experiences though.
I found no difference in speaking with males vs females. I used to breed them.
Good Luck, P'lets are great birds.

I have a chance to get a little 2 month old female. The breeder told me the same. all she has is females. Yes the bright blue is very tempting.

Do you have enough room to quarantine?

I have a little 1 yr old male, Bug. I can't believe the joy I have received from this little bit of feathers that thinks he is as big as a 'too. He is a chatterbox, and in the evening he really gets going. Right now, his repertory consists of:
Bugga, bugga, bugga, birdy, birdy, birdy
Numinums (food)
Bugger is a silly birdy
Nighty night bugger
Nighty night CocoaB (one tiel)
Nighty night Mun Ki (my other tiel)
Nighty night to the birdy boys
and his new one
Bugger upside down (said when he has his tailfeathers higher than his head, either hanging on a toy or on the side of the cage)
Be ready for a perpetual motion machine! The only time he stays in one spot is when he is asleep

Bug & the tiels are spoiled silly. Right now, they have a food toy with 3 inch long cups. In the top are organic sunflower kernels, the 2nd has fresh, uncooked peas and the 3rd has broccoli sprouts, all organic. This is their weekend treat toy and they know when momma brings it out, she isn't going to work that day. That makes them very happy!
Each time, I fill it with different things, sometimes shredded carrot, shredded coconut, broccoli slaw, flax seed, all kinds of things that they only get as a treat.
Every time Bug finishes the treat in one of the cups, he pulls it out of the toy & throws it on the bottom of the cage

All of my birds talk. The secret is to use the same words & phrases every time, just like you would with a young child. That combined with actions that match the words, and the birds get the idea. One of my tiels (the oldest) even asks for what he wants.

Roxy was only joking. You said the woman only had females, so she was making a joke that she couldn't breed them in that case.

Crystal, I'd love to have that cinnamon whiteface baby, but:
#1 My husband would KILL me
#2 I live in a 1 bedroom Apt. No more room for birds & neighbors to worry about with noise.
If I ever get a house, I'll probably have one of those huge cage/aviaries built in the center of my living room where they can have a tree and free flight inside and a ton of tiels & p'lets! (Dream on! )

Re: What is the diffrence between a female and male parrotlet??
Rosalie- Please let me know if you get her. I am so excited for you. The love you show your pets is obvious from your posts and I am sorry that you felt interigated. It should not be that way.
I gave you my opinion and hope you know that I would never question your ability or knowledge on your soon to be new addition. Someday I may get another p'let, I miss Zoey so much. They are great as I said earlier.
Personally if I know the history of the bird and the breeder. I do not quarantine. If the bird came from an unknown source then I keep them seperated.
Best of luck to you and yours!

Re: What is the diffrence between a female and male parrotlet??
Congrats if you get her! I love my Lenny (Parrotlet). He's such a cutie pie He doesn't talk...yet anyway, but he's only about 6 months old. He does give me kisses tho
I personally didn't qt. My house is only 900 sq ft and really, there's no place that would have worked...however, he came from a fantastic breeder and the other birds were very healthy looking and well cared for.
Good luck!

Yeh I've heard they are quite fussy little birds that bite but do the handfed ones like to bite also. It is just the not tame one that bite right

Re: What is the diffrence between a female and male parrotlet??
Any bird can bite, as I'm sure you know!
Parrotlets ARE prone to being nippy when they are babies (exploring, need to learn boundaries) when they are hormonal, and if they are not not properly trained. Kind of like a green cheek conure, IMO.

Re: What is the diffrence between a female and male parrotlet??
Rosalie - My pet p'let was not nippy. My breeders, forget about it - little attack devils, lol. Zoey was nippy with the other family members but with me not at all. She did rule the roost though. She was tiny but never knew it.
They are a true joy to have around.
