Cockatiel looking for home. Advice & Suggestions Needed (photo included)

    Hello,

Our baby cockatiel hatched on 8/11/09. He was suppose to go to a family member. Unfortunately my grandmother was diagnosised cancer. Now the little one does not have the forever home we thought he had. We know we should have prepared for this but we didn't. He is a great bird, and I know he will have an easy time finding a home. We want to make sure we are making the right choice when searching for a home. I guess we are just not sure what questions to ask to insure it will be a good home without being overbearing as he is our baby.

Any suggestions and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Is there any particular reason that you can not keep him........he looks really happy there with the others. You have actually stated that he is your baby.
    He looks lovely....

    Also, where are you living?

    He is a pretty bird.

I would ask questions about their care, if they have owned birds before, etc. Ask about cage size, who the pet is for, diet requirements. Just make sure the person knows about the birds and understands the huge amount of care that goes into them.

Generally people who don't take good care of the birds are the ones that buy in ignorance, thinking it is an easy low maintenance pet that just stays in the cage all the time, is cheap and doesn't make a mess.

Aww, that tiel is just adorable!! Do you know for sure that it's a male?

The only thing I would add to what was said above is, Trust your gut. If someone gives you all the "correct" answers but you just don't feel right, DON'T let him go home with that person.

    Good luck

    Hello,

Thank you all for the great advice. Alot of the thoughts that were brought up was along the lines of what I was thinking to ask, and yes I totally agree that we are going to have to use our gut instinct. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU...

As far as him/her being male or female... we are not sure. We have just been calling him a "him" since day one.
    We live in Massachusetts.
