Meeko my baby cockatiel

Hey everyone. Just thought I would post something about my baby 'tiel I'm hand feeding. He just turned a month old today and is doing great. I decided I'm going to call the little 'tiel Meeko. As far as I know Meeko is a whiteface pearl. Meeko has just realized he's got wings and what they are for so he's been flapping and stretching them a lot lately. His little feet look weird when he's walking around, but he's learning. He has just began to step up and is doing a good job at it so far. Yesterday he was only able to get one foot up, now he can get both up. He's very active and when he wants attention I know it. Lol. Meeko has been nibbling at some millet spray I have in the cage and seems to like it. Right now he seems to think he can eat the flashing lights on my laptop.

Anyways Meeko is doing great so far. I keep talking to him, hopefully I'll hear some familiar words or whistle when he gets a little older. That's assuming Meeko is a boy, which I'm not sure of. I guess I'll find out sooner or later. Either way Meeko is my little buddy. Here are some pics. Sorry they aren't the best. I can't find my camera so I used my phone.

Thanks everyone. He's keeping me busy. He's actually crying for me to get him out the cage now. I'll do that after this message. He seems to know his name because everytime I say Meeko or Meeko pretty bird he chirps.

Just about every time I walk past the cage Meeko runs to the door and when I open it he will step up in to the door opening and wait for me to put a finger down so he can step up and come with me.

that is so cute, thats exactly what my parents 'tiel does it;s so adorable. In the last picture is he sleeping ??

Yes. That was one time after I fed him and a few minutes later he fell asleep. It was weird because he had his left wing out a little and leaning towards the left. It didn't seem to bother him tho.

Is that a hamster wheel in your birds cage or is your bird on the hamster cage? If its your birds does it go on there?

He seems very happy. He's grown sooo much since I last posted. He now has all his feathers and I found out he knows how to fly by accident. He was on my hand and got a little too excited and started to fall off my right hand so I went to catch him with my left hand and next thing I know he took off flying to his cage. He won't fly on his own yet though. I don't know if it's possible at this age, but it sounds like he's trying to mimic his name. I say it a lot so hopefully he will learn it. If not that's ok. It just sounds like he tries to say it or something similar. I added some pics.

I know this is an older post, but I wanted to jump in and give my two cents, just incase you haven't already learned it elsewhere. In the post you're not sure if Meeko is a male or female. From what I see, Meeko is a male. In the whiteface mutation, males are the only ones who have a truly white face. The females don't. It will remain gray, or cinnamon etc. (maybe a shade lighter than the rest of the face). UNLESS you're baby is also pied...in which case there is no sure way to sex the bird visually. So, judging from what I see. Meeko is indeed a little boy

Thanks for all the compliments. He's my little sidekick around the house. I think he is going to grow up thinking he's human because he likes being around people more.

not quite... because its a pearl and its under a year old you CANNOT sex it by the face. just because it has a white face doesnt make it male when its a pearl.

males around the one year moult will lose their pearls, females will keep them. my Sere looked just like yours when he was that age and now he has no pearls what so ever. so you can either get him DNA sexed from the vets or just wait until he/she either loses the pearls or starts to display either female or male traits.

I think I'm just going to wait until his first molt and see what happens then. His cries are getting pretty crazy. I kind of expected it, but every time he is out with me he pretty much cries. He's started doing this thing were he will be in the food bowl eating and crying at the same time.
