Little Tree for the Conures +Pic"s
Conures just love to hang around and play so I had to come up with something. They originally had and still do, a small play stand which they seldom use after I threw this together.

The base actually sits in an old cage stand and is easy to remove for cleaning. I cover the base with fleece to catch the poo's and miscellaneous debris that they carry over to chew on. Also I can't believe how much I have cut down on cleaning since most of their poo's are concentrated to the "tree" area.
Can't wait till I retire so I can go back to working on wood projects again.

I'd buy that. I have been looking for something like this that stands on the floor but they are just crazy expensive. The one I saw at the bird shop was $400 dollars! I am considering going the "Tree branch in bucket with concrete poured in" route but this looks nice. How much did materials set you back? Are those dowels from home depot?

very good idea, I really like it.
hi, I'm Robin from
Pennsylvania. I'm just a beginner learning about lovebirds. I love these little birds, they keep me company since I'm pretty much home bound. I'm also not computer literate.I hope I'm doing this right. If not, please let me know.

If you've seen some like this for $400.00, I am in the wrong business !
Seriously, with the exception of the cage support that I had, I probably don't have more that $20.00 in the whole thing plus maybe 2 hours to build it.
The lumber can all be purchased at Lowe's or Home Depot. The rods are Poplar 1/2" ($1.44 ea you'll need 2) and the tree component is Poplar 1"X2"X8' ($6.00 you'll need one) cut down to length. I used shelving material for the base and that is about it.... Make one, it isn't hard at all.

That looks really great. Do you mind if I steal the idea? I think my husband has a new project in his future!
I get tired of spending a ton on play stands, especially since all our birds are giant termites. They chew the stands to splinters.
And we actually have some huge pieces of manzanita that we got from someone in our parrot group. We've just been trying to figure out what to do with it.
I like the whiffle ball toys too!

Sam you can make the bongs rather easily. If you know someone that is a welder get some aluminum welding wire and wrap the rope around it. The wire needs to be thick enough to handle the twist and turns plus the weight of the rope and bird(s). I used 3 wires and then wrapped the rope. they all work good. What makes them really interesting is to hang them from a fishing snap swivel so they rotate. Funny when they land on them, they will twirl a few times.

Sara steal away. I have another idea on how to make it so that the tree portion is easily removable and you wouldn't need a stand to elevate it. It would take a little more lumber but if your husband is handy with a hammer, nails and so on it can be done. I love the one I made because of the way it concentrates the poo. What a great addition it has turn out to be.
