Brand New Egg
Oh god....
About an hour ago, as I was posting, I noticed that I could not see Cookie (our first cockatiel). I went over tto the cage to find her on the bottom, her wings flattened out....I knew immediately that something was wrong....I called to my fiancee who quickly and gently scooped-up Cookie and cradled her...within two minutes, Cookie was gone. She showed no signs of injury, and had suffered no trauma...I can only assume her heart gave out. She had always been quiet and not very active, and I wonder if she had some undetected heart condition.
It is a somber night here....my fiancee has stopped sobbing for now (I am a bit damp-eyed myself), but I know we will have moments of really missing Cookie for the next while. Cookie had been with us only 8 months, be we had really become attached to her...she was by far our favourite....quiet, but so gentle and sweet.

Re: Oh god....
I am so sorry for your loss. It is so painful when they leave us, but I hope you feel better knowing you gave her a good home and lots of love.
You have my sympathy.

I can do one myself, but I am not sure that my fiancee will be willing to have it done....she is really upset over losing Cookie.
Thanks for the condolences, all. Its even surprisingly difficult on me (as a zoologist, I have dealt with the deaths of thousands of animals over the years)...this morning I did my usual morning greeting of "Good morning, Kiko, Cookie, Renjii!", and my voice caught in my throat when I got to Cookie.

Its surprising how close our little birds get to our hearts and sometimes you just never know how much you love them until you lose them.
Fly Free Boomer, we will forever love you.
