    Fly Free, Squawky

I came home today to find that my budgie, Squawky, had passed on. He was 14 years and 9 months old, and so I am certain that his end was not of illness or distress, but simply the natural conclusion of a long life. He goes to join his parents Jack and Jackie, his older brother Lucky (who passed in 2004) and his clutch-mate Petrie (who passed in 2005). He's survived by his flock-mate, Luna.

Squawky earned his name from the time when I had to hand-raise him after his mother had abandoned him -- if you had the nerve to disturb him within the box which had become his surrogate nest, be it to feed him or to handle him or anything else, he'd vocalize his displeasure with a raucous scolding of 'ACK-ACK-ACK-ACK!' until the disturbance went away.

This was a habit he'd keep throughout his life, and during his exams, the veterinarian was always amazed that such a little bird could make such a big noise!

Here's a picture of Squawky (in the foreground) and surviving cage-mate, Luna (in the background):

You had a long life, Squawky, and I hope I was successful in making it one that you enjoyed. I'll miss you, and will always cherish the memories I have of you.

I'm sorry for your loss but it sounds as if you are at peace with yourself. It sounds like Squawky had a pretty health and long life and was very much loved.

Squawky sounds like he had a great life and he was very much loved. How funny he was such a vocal little bird, I love them sassy ones.
Fly Free Boomer, we will forever love you.
