RIP Yukon
~ Nov 1998 - Aug 2, 2010

Beautiful Yukon. (she had the cutest little budgie feet!)

The matriarch of our budgie flock passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010, despite efforts to rehabilitate her back to health over the past few weeks with vet visits, medications, and TLC. She was about 12 years old, and feisty 'til the end.

Yukon, aka "Yukon the Blond," was a tiny bird with a huge personality. She was around when her contemporary Ernie passed 4 years ago, she showed both the late Ziggy and the newbie Toby the ropes, and had to watch Ziggy grow weaker and weaker and finally pass from a tumor this past March. She literally ruled the roost, told you what was what, and kept everyone (including the human flock members) in line.

She enjoyed her daily schedule, especially her bath in her special bathtub and water at just the right temperature. She loved preening and looking beautiful and keeping her slim figure. She ate and played in moderation...unusual for budgie. She was fastidious and did her best to not make a mess in her own living areas - although everywhere else (including the other birds' cages) was fair game. ;-)

Typical Yukon. "Hiding" while eyeing you from afar. :-)

She was suspicious of new people and things, but she enjoyed being near the rest of the flock as long as no one stared at her too long. She was very particular about who was allowed near her or whom she would shower with attention at any given moment.

Doing her "Peeps" Candy impression. ;-)

She was quirky, a little crazy, and we loved her.

I'm sorry for your loss too but from the look of it she had a good long & happy life. You knew it from the way she behaved with everyone. And that is alot to be proud of.

I am happy Toby is doing OK now and I hope your doing OK also. It is so hard to lose them when they have been such a huge part of your life. Big hugs to you and Paul.
