Parents are overgrooming their 1 month old chick

The parents had only one chick. The chick had a nice crest but now is completely bald. The other feathers on its back are gone. What should I do? I am worried that the chick will die. I compared the last two chicks pictures at 30 days and they have almost all of their feathers and this one doesn't. Help!

Sounds like the parents are plucking the chick. I *think* that is one of the times you are supposed to pull and hand feed, but I don't know...

Hopefully someone with breeding experience will see this soon!

Yes, if the parents are plucking the baby, then you need to pull the baby and hand-feed. Parental plucking can lead to mutilation of the baby.

Luckily, the baby is about 1 month. That means you don't have to hand-feed for too long. And, it is a much more manageable schedule at this age.

Have you hand-fed before? Do you have the supplies? If you have not done it before, try to find someone to show you. It isn't super difficult, but it does take some practice to get the hang of it. Again, this is a bit easier since the baby is a month old.

I recommend the Zupreem hand-feeding formula. It can sometimes be a bit harder to find than the Kaytee brand, but the Zupreem formula is a much better quality.

We have hand-fed both Cockatiels & Green Cheek conures. Cockatiels are the easier of the two. If you need any help, advice, or anything, please don't hesitate to PM me.

some breeders have told me that a plucker may stay a plucker and even pass that onto the chicks
so basically the advice may well be not to breed from these birds
this is not personal experience just something ive picked up whilst buying tiels

certainly handrear it..the plucking can leave scars so feathers wont grown or even kill the chick
sometimes it is the father that plucks but if it is both i think you really have to get ready with the spoon and have a go...

We caught the hen picking. I have hand fed in the past and have Zupreem. This is the first time this has happened. Unfortunately, we didn't separate the male before the other two chicks were weaned and she laid another egg and had this chick. We just gave away the first two chicks and that is when the picking started.

The chick weighs 70 grams. I managed to hand feed 5 cc's but the chick refused. The parents have stopped feeding. Is it okay to try to feed 6-10 ccs to the chick again in a few hours?
