    Smelly Cockatiel

My female cockatiel has taken on a distinctive smell of late, almost fishy like. She's never smelt before which is why it is so odd. My cockatiels get regular mist showers so I don't think she's dirty. Any suggestions what it could be?

my female has a smell but i wouldnt say fishy. its more dusty. i give her regular bathing too but she still smells and tsuka smells the same but lately dally is worse but i think its because shes molting much heavier than him. maybe the smell has to do with the feather sheathes falling off and new feathers coming in. i know she started this dustier smell since shes hit the heavy molt.

Hmmm...I generally think my 'tiels smell wonderful except when wet. Then its similar to a wet dog. Are her droppings normal and everything? Sorry I don't have any suggestions...i just think its interesting because it seems a lot of people really think their birds smell good.

Some illnesses can cause a smell, or if they get into something and it gets stuck to their feathers... if she hasn't gotten into anything, I would suggest asking a vet just in case.

Well, every animal has a "smell" to it - but tiels shouldn't smell fishy, or anywhere near a fish smell. The dust is normal, since they are very dusty birds. (and dusty wouldn't be new to the OP if they have had their bird for a bit)

    Plain corn chips? lol interesting

My tiel smelled like alfredo for a bit, but that is because he decided to try to steal my dinner and all he got was a series of baths instead. Typically he just smells like... well, feathers. Or if he eats something, he kinda smells like whatever he's eaten for a bit.

I know that if a bird has yeast its breath and poops might smell but not his entire body.

Theo smells like plain popcorn and always has - it's what made the nurses at the Banfield office fall in love with him (apart from the fact that he is handicapped and not quite all there as well as lovable). The others smell birdy or feathery I guess you could say, unless they've had a bath or been misted then it's the wet bird smell.
