Band Problem, I need advice
Dally is a banded bird from a breeder whereas tsuka is an unbanded bird. ever since my boyfriend taught him jewellery was fun, hes been eyeing dallys band and now when he gets the opportunity he tries to chew on it. hes really ticking dally off. she nips at him each time. is there any way i can stop this? i dont have the money to bring her to a vet to get it removed as im in a family crisis right now and broke from the vet ripping me off when i brought my cat jessie in to be fixed (told me i had to pay more cuz she was in heat, which she wasnt. i would know--ive lived with it for 5 years! you'd think id know when my cats in heat or not by now). is there anything else i can do?

If you're still in touch with Dally's breeder maybe they could help with taking the band off? I'm assuming that it is a closed band.
And I agree with you, it is very hard to miss a cat that's in heat - you only need to live thru it once to know exactly what's happening the next time, o joy!

its a closed aluminum band and driving all the way to the breeder is far and not easily done

Could maybe call around the local pet stores, breeders, etc? I doubt most people, even vets, would charge much for a band removal... it only takes a minute. But someone who isn't used to dealing with birds would probably hurt her.

Re: Band Problem, I need advice
i was once told closed bands have to be taken off under aneasetic. I dont know how true this is- perhaps call the vet and ask as a general enquiry? At least it would be a better opinion- Bands are pretty strong, and birds are pretty delicate, and you need pressure to cut the band- the only thing to brace against is the bird's leg- see the problem?
Better to try and just teach Tsuka not to mess with it. I get the impression Dally is trying to teach him that too!
Oh- and swat the boyfriend round the head lol

Thanks Lee for the adorable sig!

Re: Band Problem, I need advice
I heard anesthetic too from another source. im honestly very very broke right now. my grandmother just passed away, im moving out in a week, and money i have has to go to food for me, rent, and theyre immediate care such as food and cleaning to both cats and birds. and the conditions i have for moving in with the person i am moving in with is that my other one year old cat has to be fixed asap. so very tight on money considering this is gonna be covered by boyfriend then welfare until i get a job. so if i can find any options to distract tsuka from the band that'd be great. would attaching anything similiar to his leg be reccomended? thanks for the help.
