Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners
Like The title say's Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners.
I would like to start a thread dealing with breeding, enclosure size, and to compare diets and breeding box size and shapes or just anything any one can relay about their Palm Cockatoo's.
And please state how many Black Palms you have.
And if your pair has ever bred, and if the eggs were fertile?
Hope I can meet some other Black Palm owners here!
I myself have 1 Breeding Pair and an 8 year old single male.
And am looking to buy a single female for my single male if someone is willing to sell.
Thank's

Re: Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners
Don't know if this will help but www.birdfarm.com in Pland, Ohio, is listing black palm cockatoos for sale. I realize that could be a problem since you're in Canada but they might be able to give you some info or possibly a contact in Canada?
NB: The photo of the black palm shows a really beautiful bird and the general information listed was interesting though from the looks of it they are pricey with good reason. Good luck.
Sorry, meant Poland

Re: Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners
Ok...I don't recall all of this. But years ago I read an article somewhere about Palms dying after a few years. I think they nicknamed it "Black Palm Syndrome", where by all appearances a healthy palm would just die at around the age of 2-3 years and nobody (at that time) could figure out why. Granted this might have been 10 something years ago.
Like I said it's been awhile since I read about it and not a 100% on the name of what it was. Sorry just a wealth of useless information. Funny I don't remember what I had for dinner last night, but can remember reading an article about a bird I do not have and never have even seen in person!

Re: Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners
Black Palms are one of the most rare, expensive, and striking of the pet birds. In my opinion, only hyacinth macaws rival them in beauty.
That said, being expensive and rare there aren't too many owners. If you do get one, it'd be awesome to see your pics and stories.
Personally, I probably wouldn't get one, but that is because cockatoos are a bit of a handful for me -- too loud and rambuctious for us. Also, this will sound odd, but I would be afraid of having such an unusual bird as a Black Palm, because it makes you a bigger target for theft. Coming home to find my birds gone is my number 1 fear, and I feel like Ive seen one too many missing hyacinth macaw stories.

Ah Beautiful!! I totally envy you...you must have amazing patience! 'Toos are wonderful birds, but geez I have enough screaming with my sun conure.
There was a man that frequented this forum a while back (last few years) who owned a black palm and a few other toos (plus had an amazing garden...it was so unfair). I haven't seen him around lately...but you could always pm him too and then he would get an email. I will see if I can drum up those threads...
Found it! http://www.tailfeathersnetwork.com/c...php/48696-Zeus

Re: Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners
I agree with notredamebird. I worry ALL the time about theft. We live in the country and while we don't own a Hy or Palm, some of our birds are worth more. I am always on guard when giving people our address or directions to our house and always have an eye on who is here. I know I may sound paranoid, but it just takes that 1 person. I couldn't replace any of them if something happened! I don't even tell family how many and what kinds, again it just takes someone asking them and they are naive on bird theft so I'm sure they would be happy to provide the answers, without thinking the person has bad intentions.
I've had the chance to own a Hy on several occasions, I just can't bring myself to do it. I think I would be sleeping in front of the cage every night, LOL.
Palms are beautiful birds, I love how their cheek patches change depending on their mood.

Re: Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners
Palms are completely different when it comes to noise, and just so different from the other cockatoo's.
They are more gentle and a lot less noisy, and as for worrying about theft sure but I keep them in the house someone is always home no exceptions what so ever!
The male in the picture with my daughter was used in a couple of commercial's,here is the link to one of them if anyone is interested in having a look:

Re: Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners
I am so in awe of the birds in the ad added to the fact that the music was Little Green Bag! My dad gave me that record when we lived in S. America after he'd visited Europe on business. I loved it & it was boosted in one of our moves. But your Palm Cockatoo is out of this world.

Re: Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners
I would urge you to be very cautious in your pursuit for another to add to your flock, although I am sure you're amazing careful I would remind you not to give out your address, or even the area you live to many people. Black 'toos are so highly sought after that I would hate to hear you had fallen victim of theft.
That aside, I am so jealous of your flock. They are beautiful birds

Re: Calling on all Black Palm Cockatoo Owners
Thanks leebee for your concern and advice. When it comes to adding to my flock blood tests for diseases are mandatory before any purchase is completed.
And as for giving out my address,no can do unless I am sure of who I am dealing with, and everything is verified!
And we do have security!
Thanks
