So after much, much, MUCH discussion, and me explaining the pros and cons of different species, the pros and cons of rescue birds, the benefits of a good breeder, the reasons it isn't such a grand idea to purchase from a pet store, the pros and cons of owning a bird period...WE FINALLY GOT A BIRD! We decided on a dusky conure and we picked him this morning from the best breeder I've ever met. He's 13 weeks old, is on pellets and veggies already, is friendly and playful and just wonderful. And his name is Razzle!

OMG Peter, he is just the sweetest thing. He has so much personality. He isn't shy at all. He pranced and just made himself at home. He ate a little and then checked out all his toys. He's sitting on the playtop now playing with a ball.

He is just a doll! He has the perfect personality for me too. You know how I like the sassy ones. LOL He had a good time with his toys today. He went to each one with this little 'This is mine and this is mine and this is mine and this is mine too" attitude. He's also a hairdresser and did a fabulous job on my hair...even makes his own hair gel. LOL Who would have thought it...I got a bird and a personal stylist in one!

It is AWESOME to have some noise, Sam! Even though dusky's are one of the "quieter" conures, he is still a conure and has no problem letting us know it. He makes the cutest little quacking noises, but has no problem announcing his displeasure with a screech or three. LOL I've had to explain to Tammy to ignore the screeching because once he figures out he gets something for it, then its all over and we'll have a bonefied screecher on our hands. I explained that he's still a baby so whatever he turns out to be is our fault.

Have a mentioned how HAPPY I am to have a fid again?

Congrats on Razzle - he looks absolutely adorable and from the sound of it he is. Conures are soo independent and can be soo lovable it's hard to not like them.

Barb, he came to me already on pellets and veggies. I'm telling you this lady was awesome. She even asked me questions about what size and kind of cage I had for him.

That is great! Darwin's breeder was the same way, and I really appreciated it! He came to me well-adjusted...I guess that makes bad behaviors my fault!

Maya, duskies are beautiful in person. Pictures don't do them justice. They have brilliant blue on their wings and tailfeathers that is just gorgeous.

Barb, that's exactly what I said about Razzle. He came to me a happy, healthy, well adjusted baby, so if he ends up a mess, its my fault. lol
