    What kind of lovebird is this?

    This guy was found in a park by a friend of a friend on Saturday, and has now found his way to my house. I think he might be a pied peachface, but his beak is very red. He's very active, very shrill, and can fly beautifully. I'd like to figure exactly what he is so I can try to figure out who he belongs to, I'm also in touch with a bird rescue in Los Angeles and offering to foster him if they can help me place him if I don't find his owner in 30 days.

    hes a hybrid. id say fichers x peachface because theres no black on his head or face. the peachface part of him does look a little pied but the red beak and eye ring all point to a hybrid bird..

    cute little dude though!!! i bet someone is missing him, glad you are trying to find the owner

    Definitely a fischer's cross of some sort judging by his beak. But he doesn't have an eye ring - Some non-eye ring lovebirds have a smaller eye ring =D

    Hybrid. There is no mutation in hybrids, but you can tell the peachface parent must have been pied.

    He is very nice and sweet,
    I am agree with overyone; it is a mix between agapornis roseicollis and fischeri;
    the interesting thing and that it is a Pied.
    the mutation pied is been passed for transmutation (maybe) by peachface;
    this is very particular!
    I sorry only that it is steril..

    you take care of the your new friend.

    It's a good thing they are sterile

    No transmutation going on there.

    Yep, I agree, it's good they're sterile. There would be so much messing with genetics if they weren't! That never ends well...

    He is very beautiful, though.

    I'm heartbroken, I found him dead when I uncovered his cage this morning. He's been so active and talkative, I didn't know anything was wrong. He was being kept in a room with my dove, and I'm glad I quarantined him from my cockatiels now. I guess I'm just glad he was safe and warm and fed for his last days.

    awww, i am really sorry.
    It may well have been something genetic that caused his passing- hybrids often have internal problems as well as behaviour ones- that and the stress of being lost, re-caught and brought in may have been too much. Poor little guy-but at least he was warm and with someone who cared about him. Fly free and high little wanderer- i hope you find your way home soon x

    Thanks Lee for the adorable sig!

    I sorry that your bird is dead!
    you don't think you have responsability; maybe it was got sick already when you found it.
    X Mask:Could you explain me, how is possible that the mutation pied is passed by parents at the hybrid?

    Sorry to hear the bird died.

    Yeah the pied mutation would have came from one of the parents.

    yes but how is it happened? which is the reason or the cause that did this possible?
    I thought that it was the trasmutation.

    Re: What kind of lovebird is this?

    Transmutation is the term used when a mutation is transfered from one species to another. This is hybridisation, which is different. The dominant pied mutation has passed onto the hybrid in question, but will never be able to establish itself as a mutation as the bird is sterile.
