The bf and I make perches and toys as a hobby and sell them on the side to help support our small fostering/adoption program. Just thought I'd share what I recently made...


The Raptor Ball - I originally made this for Raptor's 2nd birthday. Saru will go through one of these in a very short amount of time!! This is a favorite among our clients.


"High Density Shreddable" Toy - Made with lots of different materials and just all around fun.


Buttons & Things - I made this one last night so I don't know how well it'll take with the boys yet, but I know Saru plays with anything I give him.


Popsicle Sticks Toy - This is a favorite among the clients that have birds that just love to chew.


Buttons & Raffia Toy - Another one I made last night.


Lotus Toy - A custom toy I made for a client with a Rose-Breasted Cockatoo named Lotus.


The Crow Snuggie - Originally made for a bird named Crow. Saru has a bigger, thicker one and he loves to nuzzle in between the strips to sleep. It's SO cute!!


Saru Foraging Bowl - Named after Saru because he absolutely loves foraging bowls.


Foot Toys - Several of the ones I have left... I had a bunch, but I keep making them and throwing them in Saru's foot toy basket. The only time Mika gives foot toys the light of day is when he's feeling jealous, chases Saru away from his foot toy, then beaks at it.

We just have a short blurb about the different kinds of toys we make, so there is no real "description" for each of the toys. I make toys randomly and don't really have any "staples" that I always make. Whatever I feel like making, I make. Hehe.

I get my jumbo beads from a local education supply store and I use different kinds of string - cotton, hemp, jute, sisal, etc.

I'll answer that one - yes, Maya does and I will vouch for the fact that my conures, tiels & Quakers loved her toys. A couple only lasted 2-3 days because when the conures & Quakers saw them they couldn't leave them alone. It made for a great Xmas because they left the tree alone .... for a while.

But a busy beak is a happy beak (and it also means that it isn't chewing up something we value).

Aw, thanks!! I'm sooooooooooooo glad your birds love them!! I've been very lucky that EVERY SINGLE BIRD that has ever gotten my toys have LOVED them - all except Mika.

Noooooooot! I've put my LV bracelets in his face before and he has no interest. I've tried the pink, purple, white, gray, black, brown... they don't float his boat! The only thing he touches at all are bell toys (he shoves them on occasion) so his cage is FULL of bell toys. Even then, I only hear a ring maybe one to three times a day.

But it has to be something Mika's not supposed to want - try something with a Coach or Fossil logo on it ...

Hmmm... well, I have a few pairs of Fossil earrings, but the metal will be toxic. I have a ton of Coach bags but Mika doesn't really bother with them... though I've got a pair of Coach sterling silver owl earrings I could try??

The one toy he "plays" with the most is this bell and plastic key toy that I put right by his happy hut. He hangs on it and shoves it more than anything else (he's doing it as I type too). I think I may need to get one or two more of them, if I can find them on eBay again... I can't remember the seller! But I don't know what's so special about this bell toy... I bought him so many other bell toys and I've tried to put them in it's place by his happy hut but the results aren't the same.

Wow, you ARE lucky. Even with the cage toys the conures are like cockroaches - I put down my purse and they're on it trying to get into it. Iif you try to nonchalantly put something somewhere so they won't go to it it is like a bird magnet - EVERYONE has to check it out.

Man, yeah, I definitely feel lucky - our birds don't go into my stuff like that.
