Canary hasn't sung in over a year...what to do???

Hi, could anyone suggest what I can do to help my canary bring back his singing.
When I first got him a few years ago, it sang and sang. But about a year ago it all stopped. He seems like a strong bird and I believe he has a respiratory problem. At night you can hear him making clicking sounds, noisy breathing.

Any suggestion to help my canary sing again?

    Thanks

If you think there is a problem with his breathing you should take him to a vet.

I agree this bird does not sound healthy. He needs to see an avian vet. Sick birds don't sing.

really the canary doesn't sing for all year but there some period (the canary in wild sings in the spring) where the male sings for court the female.
maybe that the alimentation is poor of protein or that the temperature is low or that there are some variable which brake him.
however if you hear a noise during the his breathing then a check by vet maybe is indicated

Clicking sounds in the breathing is a sign of air sac mites. Gouldian finches are the number one effected species, with the canary coming in as a close second. The GOOD thing is that you don't need a vet to cure this.

The general treatment is Ivermectin, or if you're in Europe, Ivomec. Scatt is also a very good treatment to use and I know people who swear by S76.

You can order them from these sits:

    Hope this helps!
