    Black Palm

If I was to rehome my black palm, Matia, is there anyone here that would be interested in buying her? I may have to, due to allergies. It is a bummer! I may have to find a home for my amazon too, Frankie. I don't know how to go about finding responsible people. Help!
    Thanks!

    Re: Black Palm

Oh, that's terribly sad. I have to say, a Black Palm is pretty much my dream bird, but there is no way I could afford to purchase one.

I strongly encourage you to seek out and find a very reputable Avian rescue, to avoid your bird falling into the hands of some collector or someone who just wants an unusual bird but won't give it the time, attention and specialized nutrition they need.

Also, there is someone, in the "other bird's forum" who is looking for another Black Palm female --- I would see if I could contact him and discuss it.

Other than all that, welcome to TF... I'm sorry about the situation you are facing though.

    ETA:

I don't know if this guy is still active... but you might be able to try contacting him.

Black palms are gorgeous - sorry you may have to rehome have you tried increasing the baths to try to help keep the dust down? Also an air purifier can help.

For rehoming, I would set up a list of questions on the care they require and ask the prospective owners during an interview (in person!), also make sure they meet the bird before you agree to anything. Such an expensive and rare bird is going to be hard to find a good home for, but an avian rescue may be able to help you out in finding someone. Good luck!

    Re: Black Palm

I have an air purifier. I will try giving her more baths, though! Thanks! My preference is to keep her. It took me a long time to find her, and I don't want to give her up!

You are right...her care is pretty specific with diet and general care. She is very different than any other bird I have been in contact with. There isn't a lot of information out there, either, about the care of a black palm! I've had to contact people from all over to get enough information to care for her properly.

    Re: Black Palm

    Hi Lisa,
I have a beautiful male black palm, and I know how you feel about how you may have to give her up. I am in a similar predicament. The bathing part is actually very good and sound advise. My bird loves water, in the wild, they live in rain forests and it rains of them several times a day. I give my boy a bath every evening, and dry him with a warm blow dryer. He loves it! Birds preen, and generaly like to do this after a bath. If you have to give her up, how much would you be asking for her? I may know of someone who might be interested please let me know.
    Thanks.
