Hello, from the proud owner of a new 'tiel

    Hey there.

Thought I'd introduce myself. Just got a new cockatiel a few days ago, still trying to decide on a name for it - it's a bit hard because I don't even know if it's a boy or a girl. It's a month old, and the breeder I bought him/her from seemed to think it'd be weaning soon. It's a beautiful light pied, I'm quite attached to him/her already. Been lurking for about a week or so before I got my new 'tiel, trying to educate myself. I thought I'd join because it seems like a nice community and I've got a lot of questions. Hope I get to know you all.

Also, that's him/her in my avatar. Wasn't able to get a good view of the front, because he/she was still a bit nervous then, getting used to his/her new home. My user name is also a possible name I'm thinking of for my new cockatiel.

It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds.

Beautiful bird! I had name issues as well- I initially thought my tiel was male and chose the name Dorian- because the bird is gray. Dorian the Gray. Because I'm a nerd. After a bout with a GI infection brought us back to the vet, the vet said that the color pattern on the new feathers was indicative of a female. I agreed to have the bird tested, and it turns out that I have a Dori instead of a Dorian. The moral of the story is pick whatever you want and be ready to adapt it!

I totally agree! I've had fids that turned out to be the oppositve sex of what I thought they would be too!! One was named Alexis Rose (a normal gray that turned out to be male) so I just called him Lexi!! Right now I have a tiel I named Olivia, but I call her Ollie!! So, if it turns out Olivia is a male, I'll just call her Ollie!!! LOL I love to read the names of fids on the forums I visit. The majority of the names are very unique and neat!!
