Look online and find a couple of good vets to call and maybe they will give your friend there opinion on what they think about operating. If its small enough I think there are things they give them that somehow flush the metals out but I am not sure.
I feel bad for your friend, she must be just so devastated to know her bird has metal in it. My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her bird.
Fly Free Boomer, we will forever love you.

With a good avian vet, then yes, i believe so. Although it should be being done already.
I know my vet often operates on birds smaller than that with high success rates.

Thanks Lee for the adorable sig!

OMG I have a good friend with this exact problem, the vet won't do surgery on him- too dangerous. He told her to feed him peanut butter so he can hopefully smoothly eliminate it out by himself. I worry that in the mean time- the toxicity is slowly killing him before he passes it. any other suggestions She loves him so much. I don't know what else to tell her to try.
