HELP , egg hatched , need info please

hi, i have just come home from school and looked in the next box and there is a baby, i candled the eggs and only one out of four was fertile. im not sure what to do. wolfie is a first time mum, so im worried incase she doesnt feed it or if she rejects it. if she does i guess i need to hand rear it, what do i need or how often do i need to feed it , if it comes to that. i really need some info and support and i would feel very grateful. thanks.

If you aren't experienced in hand feeding, it is very dangerous for the chick for you to hand feed. Contact a breeder in your area, or an experienced avian vet for them to show you how to hand feed a chick. Do it BEFORE you need to, chicks need to eat often.

http://www.cockatielcottage.net/feeding.html There is an article on hand feeding. But you really need first hand showing on how to hand feed. It is VERY easy to kill a chick if you are not sure what you are doing.

Marrie is right, hand feeding is a very gentle thing that - if done wrong - can cause a lot of problems. It should only be done if absolutely necessary and only if you have been shown properly. With that said, if you didn't have any experience in babies previously or read up on them I would from now on separate your pair if you can or take steps so that they will have a lesser chance of laying eggs (or shake, freeze, or boil the eggs when they are laid so they do not hatch)

I hope your bird does a good job mothering this baby and I wish you the best of luck. Be sure to have an avian vet on hand though if something arises as sometimes first time parents can do something wrong as well!

thanks for the info, i have seen and herd the chick and it looks and sounds healthy, i have also seen both parents feeding the new chick, which is a good sign, im going to keep an eye on the chick and the parents but it all looks good. can you tell me what weight the chick should be at certain days because that would help a lot thanks again.
