    Can I use closet rods?

I have several wooden closet rods which I would like to use in making my play gym. I would like to know if the wood is safe for birds. Anybody know? I believe that the wood is poplar.

Poplar is listed under bird safe woods, but make sure they aren't coated with anything.

I would have to say don't use them. Even though the wood may be poplar, it is probably coated in an oil to preserve it and stop it from drying and cracking. Be very careful.
