Female harassing male
We have had Charlie for a while now and I think he's 6 months old got Lola yesterday she's about 3/4 months old. They have gotten on well over the last 24 hours. But she seems to be harassing him, following him around the room constantly. They have been kissing this morning but then they got in a fight. The only information I can find is about the male harassing the female but this isn't the case. Can anybody shed some light on it? Do they need to be separated?

Re: Female harassing male
YOu know just because you toss 2 birds in the same cage does NOT mean they are going to be fast friends! Can you say you are fast friends with everyone you bump into any where you go?
All animals have their own personalities. NOT all get along with each other.
I would seperate these birds NOW unless you want one to kill the other. Cage them side by side to get use to one another. ONCE you see them starting to sit side by side - THEN you introduce the new bird ***BUT**** only when you have time to watch them. If they start fighting they are not going to live in harmony.

Re: Female harassing male
To break down what I believe you are saying is, the birds are canaries, (1) female, 6 months old the other a male, 3 to 4 months old that you are allowing to fly openly in a room. They began fighting and you took one and put it in a cage. I am sorry but your descriptions are a little confusing to understand. In the full attempt to help, “if” they are loose, flying around, for their safety put them in cages. Free flight is fine as exercise in a very controlled space but as a normal everyday living situation, please don’t. Like I said I’m not sure if that is what you meant, but I thought I’d point it out. Next, if your birds are indeed 6 months and 3 to 4 months old, they are very young. Most people do not remove canary young for sale until after their first molt which is about how old your male bird is, if you’re correct about its age. Both of your birds are still in the process of finding their personalities meaning this is a gross exaggeration but they are equivalent to say a human 6 year old and 12 year old if their ages are what you stated. Canaries usually at a young age get along with each other but some can be territorial. If this territorial behavior is being demonstrated now house them separately. Canaries are solitary creatures by nature and do and will fight more times than not. Do what was suggested by Kerry and separate them but in close proximity to each other. In a few months around February, they will come into breeding so things may change. Not many people outside of canary people know that more males are killed by females than the other way around. Let them get used to each other and see. While that is going on read up on as much as you can get your hands on.
