    Natural air freshener recipes

I found some recipes that look pretty bird safe -

Here’s a DIY natural holiday air freshener (use the leftovers for gifts) recipe:

    What you need:
    2 cups cold applesauce
    1 cup nutmeg
    1 cup ground cinnamon
    1 cup ground cloves
    Cookie cutters
    Wax paper

    What to do:
Make a dough by mixing all of the above ingredients.
Roll dough out 1/4″ thick and make shapes with cookie cutters.
Poke a hole on the top of the shapes.
Lay out shapes on wax paper until they are completely dry, for a day or two.
Insert ribbon or string through hole and hang.

    COUNTRY KITCHEN POTPOURRI
This potpourri has a warm “welcome home” aroma that’s pleasant any time of year.

    INGREDIENTS
    1 tablespoon aniseed
    1 tablespoon allspice
    6 nutmegs
    6 cinnamon sticks, coarsely broken
    1 teaspoon powdered ginger
    ¼ cup whole cloves
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1-2 vanilla beans, cut into 1″ pieces
1 cup coarse salt such as kosher salt

    1. Crush aniseed and allspice in a mortar and pestle.
    2. Use a hammer to crack the nutmeg and cinnamon sticks.
    3. Mix all of the ingredients together and fill a lidded container of your choice. Old Mason jars work well.
    4. Open whenever you want to freshen the air.

    Might have to try this.

Bit off topic: reading the ingredients list made me think of spices one might use for pumpkin pie... baking copious amounts of pumpkin pie is a reasonable way to freshen the air in your house too, right? lol

Hehe yes, yes that would work too but I don't like the taste of pumpkin pie so it wouldn't be much use to me!

These sound like good ideas... I just wonder if they would lose their scent quickly or not really fill a room very well.
But hey, it's worth a try, right?
