Visited a pet store today...
...and managed to exit again without any new fids, although it was very very difficult.
I was actually in there to get a reflective collar for my friend's cat, but loud bird calling drew me to the back of the store. The source of the calling was a beautiful cockatiel that was staying there for the holidays while his owner was away, a sign on his cage said he was not for sale, but it was not this that tempted me, but the two beautiful blue-fronted Amazons they had for sale.
One sort of looked at me and went back to what it was doing, but the other showed interest in me, climbing over to the side of the cage I was on, bobbing and making clicking noises with his beak, and when I said hello, I swear it said hello back at me! I spent quite a bit of time with it, but left without even asking the price.
The reason for this was because apart from being pretty sure it was expensive, likely beyond my price range, but also because I have only ever owned budgies before, small birds, and they were bought on impulse after I fell in love. I was lucky with them, they are within my ability to care for, but I imagine a blue-fronted Amazon, a bigger bird than my current fid, would need more room and more care than I am currently able to give. Add to that its friendliness suggested it might like more out of cage time than a bug, and I decided that as gorgeous as the bird is, it would be unfair to take it on. I suspect there are other fctors such as probable life span and need for stiumulation that would make me an unwise owner. At the veery least, I should research these birds befire I even cnsider one.
However, I had to tell you about these two beautiful birds, particularly the one that took to me, and I will see if the pet store will let me take pics to show you.

Re: Visited a pet store today...
Good for you. Amazons are pretty, but way too moody for me with they cycle. A friend of mine use to own a dusky Amazon??? It WAS an Amazon and he was brown, but not one of the common birds. I use to love to go over a flert with him. He was sooo funny. The more I made a fuss over how pretty he was the more animated he got, showed me all his feathers, turn around on the perch, etc. My friend siad he wouldn't even do that for her.
