    roommate for my handicapped budgie?

i have a young male budgie who is not able to use his left wing anymore due to a sort of 'freak accident'. its been a couple of months since his emergency run to the vet, and he's back to his chipper, sing-songy old self. However, i think he's rather lonely since i'm an employee and student; but i worry that he wouldn't be able to keep up with a cage buddy. I moved my cockatiels into the same room as him, but he can't physically interact with them because they are a bit aggressive, but he wants so bad to play with other birds! /= Any thoughts?

You could try. I would go with an older male budgie, but introduce them in cages side by side. After a few weeks of this when you do try them in the same cage do it when you will be there all day long and can supervise. There will always be the possibility that the new bird could become aggressive with the disabled bird.

How old is your little disabled budgie? Having homed budgies for many years, I have found that on occasion an older budgie can be too agressive with a smaller one, a baby, or a disabled budgie. So, if I were to get another friend for my little disabled budgie I would choose to get a new baby budgie. Usually new babies are not aggressive towards other budgies. And of course like all birds, each budgie has its own personality. Usually when you go to a pet shop or breeder to get a budgie, when you observe them interacting with each other you can see those who are more active and aggressive. I think it would really lift the Spirits of your little disabled budgie to have a new buddy to share life with.
