    Question Budgie in distress

Hello. I wonder if someone has an idea on this please. My dear little girl is pulsing, tail bobbing, whimpering/squeaking constantly. She is in good nick and is not lethargic, she is eating and drinking. I took her to the vet two days ago and was told she is trying to regurgitate and has feed compacted, caused by either bacteria or fungus. I was told to put 5g of oxytetracyclin in 50ml water (changing it every two days), and to go back to the vet in 6 days for a fungus drug if the antibiotic hasnt worked. They x-rayd her which showed no tumours. Perhaps i am looking at her too much, but today i think the left side of her abdomen may be swollen and she seems to be stretching that leg out sometimes and pulling it right in at others, as though experiencing discomfort on that side, and has begun laying on the perch rather than standing. Her breathing is normal. Do budgies have urinary blockages? She is poo-ing ok but the droppings seem small and dry. I could not get her into the vet again until tomorrow morning and am feeling so sorry for her that i need to search for some answers now Can you help please? Thank you. Toni. P.S. she is around 6 years old, so surely it would not be an egg problem. Also, at 7 she is not an elderly bird, she is physically very young, active and healthy. Thanks again.

Tail bobing means your bird can't breathe properly put it above some steam but not hot hot steam just a little and you will see some difference probably
My budgie had breathing problem for less then a day because luckily I read on another website that steam helps I hope I helped
    I LOVE BUDGIES!!

Brittany, thank you so much for your reply. She seemed to be improving after that. But then, as i had feared, it must have all taken a toll on her heart because i lost her yesterday. Am so sad. She has filled my home with sound and song and my heart with joy for such a long time now. The quiet is so loud! Thanks again and all the best to you. Toni xx

I am so sorry tohear of your loss. I lost a budgie suddenly, but she seemed in perfect health, I saw her, shw was jumping, flapping, singing and screeching at Lwarence, and teasing him and being bossy as usual......went out, back 30 minutes later and she was dead, the Vet thinks it may have been her heart...I certainly know mine is breaking...

Maybe a little later you can get another little budgie/parakeet and let him or her into your heart, but only if and when you are ready to share your life with another little one. Just remember, your little girl, (you never said her name) is waitng for you near fieds of millet and all her favourite things, flying in a blue sky over the Rainbow Bridge, waiting till your time on this earth comes to its natural conclusion, and you can join her.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

    ArticunoGail.
I was sane once, but I got better.

    My baby boy, Lawrence.

Thank you xxo That is a gorgeous thing to say to me, you have made me smile through my tears. Oh what a shock to find your lovely healthy bird had suddenly gone. Am so sorry to hear of it. They become such a part of your life dont they, with their happy, social little natures and big personalities. Their cheeky, bossy ways, a cheerful chirp when you walk through the door, an excited twittery dance when they see a treat coming their way, the constant chatter and dinging of bells & you find yourself chatting & whistling back to them all through the day when you're at home. They're such a constant prescence and when they die it mmm hurts and leaves such an emptiness about the place. We buried her amongst the camellias yesterday evening. Was terrible this morning coming out to see the potplant i'd put in her cage's place. Nothing against the potplant lol.

    Re: Budgie in distress

Toni, I'm so very sorry for your loss. Gail gave you some very comforting words and I feel the very same way as Gail does, so I know too, that one day you will rejoin your little one at the Rainbow Bridge. I also lost my little 5 year old budgie, Maxi, back in October, so I too can share the sad and heart breaking feelings you have. You speak of the constant presence of your little budgie, and I have no doubt in my mind that the "presence" you speak of will always be in your home. I can feel my little Maxi's presence around me every where in my home. It was so special for you to bury your little one amongst the camellias. I have a very deep belief in God's awesome beauty of nature, and I know in my heart that your little budgie would really be happy to know he was amongst the camellias in your yard. I know how empty your heart and life are now. As Gail shared, only you can decide if you would like to have another little budgie one day in the future. It will take some time for you to grieve the loss, and it is very good therapy for you to be able to come to the forum and write the things that mean the most to you about your little one.

I purchased another little baby budgie, Muffin, after my Maxi died. And one of the main reasons I decided to get Muffin was because I have homed budgies for many years in my home, and it just wouldn't be the same here without the beautiful chattering and singing of a budgie! Muffin has a little tiel friend by the name of Ollie. Each are in separate cages, but they chatter and relate to each other just like fid friends do.

I'm sending you a big hug, and my sincere condolences.

Could also have seed impacted in the crop which can cause the problem. Tail bobbing is respitatory, breathing problems.

Thanks bill, yep that's what the vet said it was, but then she died (the bird not the vet), so we'll never know.
