Emergency Formula Substitution?
Halp! I tried to get "everything we'd need" when we bought our baby cockatiel 2 weeks ago, because the pet store is a good distance away. They sold me one bag of Kaytee Exact Formula and then millet and seed mix. When I saw that we were getting low on formula at the end of last week I ordered a bag from Amazon, 2 Day shipping. It SHOULD have arrived today but didn't! (It shows delivered to the post office, UPS passed it off to the USPS and it's THERE, not HERE, waiting to be delivered to my house in the morning.) And I only have enough formula for one more feeding. =S I only just started putting veggies in my 29 day old tiel's cage but he's not touching it. He's nibbling at the millet spray but he's still basically all formula. What else can I feed him to keep him from starving?
I have some cream of wheat - can I split my remaining formula between the 11pm feeding tonight and the 8am feeding in the morning, and add cream of wheat to it so he gets a full belly and doesn't starve? (I'm madly doing research on the net right now, any advice would greatly be appreciated!!)

Re: *URGENT* Emergency Formula Substitution?
I wished I knew what you do Amber but I dont. If you havent already looked at this site it usually is one of the best out there, http://www.avianweb.com
I do hope you can find something online that you can feed him until the formula arrives. Sorry I couldnt help you and I hope he is OK and starts to eat it least his millet soon.

Re: *URGENT* Emergency Formula Substitution?
Thank you! I found this recipe in several different places and I had 20 minutes before the store closed so I decided to go with that! Just came back with the ingredients and I'll give it a try (hopefully he eats it!) http://www.cockatielcottage.net/formula.html

Re: Emergency Formula Substitution?
Just a quick update - he ate it just fine, not even a hitch. It was half formula, half this recipe. I can do the same thing in the morning and the mail runs at 10am so we should get our Kaytee then and be back on track. I hope not to need to know this again (this 2nd bag should last til he weans, right?) but it's good to know it if I need to!

Re: Emergency Formula Substitution?
I am happy your found something to feed him last night and hope the Kaytee comes today. I think if I were you I would order another bag of the formula, just incase... If he dont need it you can give it to him now and then as a treat because its good for him even if he eats real food.

Re: Emergency Formula Substitution?
Actually it turns out my package *was* delivered yesterday.. it just wasn't delivered here!!! Nobody knows WHERE it is. So hubby is making a run to the pet store (right now actually) to get another bag and whenever/if my package shows up, I'll have an extra.
What a mess!! Figures the first time I have a package mix up in years it would be something "time sensitive" like this, right??

Re: Emergency Formula Substitution?
It least your hubby is going to get you one from the pet store. I live far away from towns so when we need something its always a drive for us too so its good you will have a extra once you get yours in the mail.
