Is cockateil feces toxic
Hi, I'm new to the forum and asking this question because I have a nervous son. I laid a plate of water for my tiel to take a bath in which she stepped in once and flew up on my arm and I forgot to put it away. Son comes home and sees the plate there, didn't notice the little bit of water and proceeded to lay a block of cheese on top of water to slice and ate it. When he found out my tiel was in it he is scared now he going to get sick from the cheese he ate that sat in the water. Does anyone know if he can become ill from this? I realize this sounds silly and I don't really think he can but I really need to set his mind at ease. She had sat on my finger prior to my putting her in the water and there wasn't any matter on my finger. I'd appreciate any comments from anyone that knows. Thank you.

Re: Is cockateil feces toxic
Not likely, no. If feces is allowed to build up, become old and flake into the air it can cause problems... but my bird eats out of my dinner plate daily and I have never gotten sick, even when he decides to flat out flop in the middle of it because the food is so tasty The bird is more likely to get sick from any of YOUR germs, than you from most of theirs, as long as you keep the area / bird clean (and birdy isn't sick, certain things can be transferred, between you). Now, that isn't to say you want to eat bird droppings, but they do use certain bird droppings as face masks in high ticket beauty salons.

This is going to sound gross, but I've often forgotten to wash my hands after cleaning up bird poop, and my tiel also wanders around the dinner table and eats off my plate, and I haven't gotten sick yet. Still, I probably wouldn't want to lay food down where the bird has pooped, and I'm not promoting poor hygiene, but I think you can at least reassure your son.
