    Eastern Rosella - Problem

    Hi,

I have an Eastern Rosella and I have just noticed that he has some crusty material covering one of his nostrils. Has anyone any idea what this could be and do I need to be concerned about this?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Sue.

They can get stuff stuck in their nares, but crustiness is never a good sign if it is a discharge from the bird - so a vet having a look is a good idea. Crustiness around that area can be a sign of an infection.

    Many thanks for your replies.
I will get my bird checked out by a Vet just to be on the safe side.

    Re: Eastern Rosella - Problem

    Hi All,

Just thought I would give you an update on my Rosella.
I took him to see the Vet today and she thinks it is mites. He has had Ivermectin (another dose in about two weeks) and I have been told to put liquid paraffin on his nostrils every two days. I was also advised to wipe his wooden perches with sunflower oil.
I haven't the Rosella very long, he came from the veterinary clinic and rescue centre in Cyprus where I help out.

    Sue.

Glad the vet doesn't think it is anything more serious, hope it clears up soon!

    Re: Eastern Rosella - Problem

The only sure way to know the problem is to have a vet check it out. I have read many books on biird health, while getting some things right, when I brought the bird to a vey, she found things that I did not know about. They simply know more about a birds health due to their many years of school.
