    Inbreeding?

I recently purchased a pair of Zebra Finches and Society Finches and they both had their first clutches. I'm not a breeder and have them for enjoyment, but what if the siblings or parent mate each other? Won't the babies be inbreed and have problems/deformaties? People told me to take the eggs away when they are layed or just remove the nests, but they love the nests. Help

Well, you have a bit of time to figure it out, since the chicks wont be trying to breed until they mature. Yes inbred birds are generally not that healthy and it is not a good idea. You could rehome the babies, buy them unrelated mates, or not allow them to nest.

Well the real question is....DO you want to breed? If so then you will have to have cages to put all the weaned chicks until they color out and/or you can find an outlet to sell/give away all the offspring.

If you do NOT want to breed, then sell your hens and only keep male birds.

    Re: Inbreeding?

I would suggest if you are considering possibly breeding birds that you would do solid research about the entire process. Breeding birds isn't just "having baby chicks". There are many, many factors that are incorporated into the process that are very, very important, not only for the welfare of the paronts but also for the chicks that might hatch.
