30 day old lovebird wants out of the bird box!

Our lovebirds had four babies in their outdoor cage (we live in Singapore where it is always hot) and the oldest (32 days)wants to come out of the box! The baby got her (we'll just go with female) head out of the entrance hole and was about to step out on a perch! Once out, will Mom and Dad feed her anymore? Does this mean she can feed herself? Should we take her to school with us (we both teach) and start handfeeding her?

    Help!

My parent birds kept trying to feed their babies long after I removed and started hand feeding them, during their shared rec times. I have read that in the wild they continue to feed their babies for a while even after they leave the nest. I would say if the chick is fledging and has the dexterity to maneuver out onto a perch to let nature take its course -- but I would not know, since I always hand fed and so I have no experience with the behavior of parents toward older chicks in the nest. My hunch is that this little guy will be fine. Just keep an eye on him.

Maybe someone who has the parents rear the chicks will come on and share their experience with you.

Did you want to hand feed the chicks?

Thanks! So you can hand feed them and then return them to their nesting box with their brothers and sisters and parents?

I raised cockatiels and budgies by shared parenting and my chicks are handled from the day they hatch, and a 30+ days love bird should be out of the nest by now. they learn to fly between 25-35 days depending on the chick
