Re: I got my baby today!
He reminds me a bit of those cartoon birds when they end up in a place that has really large creatures and it just sticks its head in, picks them up then takes it back to the nest as one of its babies. So I can see dinosaur too. So tiny though! Do you know what color he's going to be when he gets his feathers all in? Looks like he's growing in a bit greenish blue.
Just a note for anyone who finds this thread off google: Pat has experience in babies this young, I would not recommend anyone inexperienced taking home a chick this little.

Re: I got my baby today!
He's supposed to be a blue. That's all I was told, lol. It looks like he might turn out to be a turquoise, but it's far too soon to tell, as you can see.
I named him Gabby.

Re: I got my baby today!
These Indian Ringneck babies have huge feet and I wondered why. Then it dawned on me. I betcha that their feet are that big so that the babies can manage to perch with their parents. What clued me in was that this baby grasps things very strongly. His nails are huge and his feet grip tightly. I bet it has something to do with the locations of bird nests. Maybe the birds that nest close to the ground have babies with smaller, weaker feet and the ones that nest high up have babies with bigger, gripping feet. What do you think??

Re: I got my baby today!
Kahnee's in love with baby Gabby. Today I took a little nap and was awakened to Kahnee squawking non-stop. That's not like him. Believe it or not, I've learned to recognize a few of his calls - one is his name for me and another sounds like he's trying to say c'mere like the cockatiel does. I heard Kahnee make both these calls over and over. So, what was the big problem? Baby Gabby was hungry!!!
Here's a photo of Kahnee and Gabby together after the feeding session (they are being well-supervised):

Thanks Ellen and Carolyn. I'm thinking of making a copy of the photo for the bird dealer. He saw it already and liked it.

Yes, Deanna, I totally agree! I need my "bird fix" each day too!! It is going to be so much fun seeing how fast little Gabby grows. A little "bird" told me that Gabby and Kahnee will be the best of friends and inseparable!! And they sure do have a special "mom" for a parront!!

Thanks Deanna and Ellen! Here's the latest picture of Gabby. He sure is changing fast. He's gained 20 grams in 4 days! And he's growing into his feet, that is, they look a little more proportionate to his body.

He's hooked on watching tv. After he eats he cries to be held and keeps crying until I sit in front of the tv and turn it on. Then his gaze is riveted on the tv. I paused a show tonight to talk with my granddaughter, and Gabby immediately squawked until I turned his show back on.

Re: I got my baby today!
Pat, Gabby has changed quite a bit since the first photo. I think Gabby is going to be one spoiled bird. Any plans on a fid photo with Gabby, Henry, Khanee and Misty?

Re: I got my baby today!
I don't think they'll all sit for a single photo together. Henry is too little and Kahnee is definitely not fond of him. Besides, Henry is busy with his new baby Riley, lol. But I have photos of them that are recent.
Here's Misty and the Easter Piggie:

And here's Henry and Riley from when Riley barely feathered out:

Riley turned out to be really pretty with some pied markings and turquoise face.
More later...

You have some gorgeous little birds Pat, thanks for posting the pictures. I think Gabby is going to be such a lover bird because it already sounds like she is spoiled rotten which to me is the best kind of bird you can have.

Re: I got my baby today!
Baby Gabby (Gabriel or Gabriella, depending on gender) is gaining weight rapidly. He's 90 grams today, from 68 grams 4 days ago. He recognizes my voice and will walk to me when I put him in his little feeding box. I placed a 'diaper' in his brooder this morning and called him over to it. After a few moments, he came over to it, LOL. He's a smart little tyke, very curious about everything. He already knows Kahnee and Misty. Pretty soon I'll introduce him to the parrotlets. P.S. I'm not worrying about quarantine. I know lots of people will get on my case about that, but I keep my birds clean and I trust the dealer. Gabby's the last bird I'm getting. Seven's enough!!
