when is it OK just start leaving the baby in the cage with my 6th month old?? they seem to all be getting along very well. i have been putting my older one on top of their cage and holding them at the same time. the older one kind of picks/bites, very gently, like she/he is trying to get the scent or cleaning baby. its really cute. but im worried about the older one attacking the baby when left alone.
Can you let them out together in the day where you can watch them closely? I cant really say how to introduce birds because when boomer was alive he hated all birds and there was no way he would he would even sit next to one without trying to rip it apart. I heard its not a good idea to put two lovies together right away so my guess is to leave them out together with you watching them and perhaps put them in the cage together for a little when you can still keep a eye on them but dont leave them together without you watching them. I would hate to see the baby attacked by the other lovie. I know others here put birds together so hopefully someone with experience with this will come along and help you.
Fly Free Boomer, we will forever love you.
Because they are both babies they should be fine, the younger they get together the easier it seems to me. If you have a big enough cage (that neither of them is protective of) it would be fine to leave them together after watching them for a bit. Start slow, 1 hour in the cage at first, if all is good then do a bit longer etc.
here is peewee(yellow baby) and kiwi(about 5 1/2 months old) getting to know each other....kiwi is always nipping at peewee....is this normal? they get at least an hour a day hanging out. most of the time kiwi is on top of peewee's cage but i do put them together in kiwi's cage for bit too[IMG][/IMG]
depends if it's play nipping and I'm the boss so do as I say nipping, or if it's full on I want you dead nipping.
the body language I'm seeing here looks more like I want to play to me...
They're your birds, and you're with them all the time. Do you think Kiwi is trying to hurt Peewee? Cute names btw!
Thanks Lee for the adorable sig!
its been awhile since i have posted but they are best buddies now!! it took a few weeks but it was worth it!
