Are papaya seeds okay for birds to eat?

I did some checking and there seems to be a controversy about whether papaya seeds are edible. The bottom line seems to be that they are edible. But I'd like to know if anyone has better information with regard to letting our birds eat those seeds.

    Thanks!!

If there is controversy about if they are safe or not I wouldnt feed them to your birds. I wondered about Lima beans and read the same thing about them and when I finally decided to give them to Mango his poops got wet and mushy so from that point on I never fed him anything that people were not sure if they were safe or not. I would just stick to giving them papaya or better yet dehydrated papaya which was boomers all time favorite.

Re: Are papaya seeds okay for birds to eat?

I just did more research on this topic because I put fresh papaya in my birds' salad today. I always feel bad throwing away all those seeds. So, this time I looked up 'Papay Seed Recipes' and found tons of them! And, the recipes I found are on reputable websites, like Cooks.com, Food.com, Epicurious.com and others. I found lots of papaya seed dressing recipes and information on using papaya seeds for treating digestive ailments.

So, after more research, I might just be inclined to offer them to my birds. But, I'm not ready to do that yet. Still would like to look at the chemical composition of the seeds.
