Red face New to Forum from Australia!

Hi All - I found this site when doing some researching on toys to keep my 2 Rainbow lorikeets entertained during the day. So if anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome. Here in Mexico pets are rarely considered family members so local accessories for birds were impossible to find. I shopped for baby rattles and such at the grocery and came home with many for my cockatiel. Pepe loves them. He will also play for hours with a plastic tie wrap on a cage bar so simple homemade toys are easily made to please him. I save plastic bottle caps and buy colorful pipe cleaners to make toys with too. My album has photos of a large play gym and climbing net that I just completed. I love Australia and your lorikeets must be beautiful. We love pics.

Hi and welcome!! Love to see the pics of Charlie and Lori. What kind of toys do you have for your lorikeets? My tiel, Tango loves things with string. He was perched on my feet this past weekend and he was very occupied with my shoelaces.. Kept him busy until I took him off my foot. Sometimes, the most simple things will keep any bird content.

My budgie and tiel also like things with strings! And what I like about strings is the fact that they keep their attention for quite a long time and they generally are safe to play with, as long as you don't hang anything in the cage with string. That is dangerous. I had a tiel who almost died due to getting caught in a piece of yarn that I had hung in the cage when I first got her (Hope was her name). At the time, I was new to having tiels and didn't realize how dangerous that yarn was. Luckily I found her in time and she lived. But it was a lesson I learned that I will never forget, and I do not ever hang anything in my birds' cages with long pieces of string or yarn.
